I take pregabalin and cocodamol for neuropathic pain relief plus cervical spondylosis pain relief but I was given a blood test last week and the do raid there was a problem with my liver and I’m to have another blood test Monday but I’m wondering if it’s the pain reliever meds I take that has caused the problem as I am worried that I won’t be able to take my pain meds or is there any medication for pain that doesn’t effect you liver or can the next blood test be normal thanks for any replies

The drugs you have been preescribed will not affect your liver unless....like all meds...you take in huge quantities.

I had a blood test before Christmas and my liver test came back high but my gp had me take another test 2 weeks later and it was fine. She said they can sometimes come back high and the next one would be normal so there was no need to worry or do anything else. I hope this is the same for you. Good luck.

amitriptyline and gabapentin are good for nerve pain. I’m on a low doze for both. They take the edge of the pain

The Mrs had a similar experience.

She has rhumatoid arthritis, and has bloods every couple months.

One time the drs called at 8pm at night, exclaiming ... Your liver is "strange". Come in tomorrow for a blood test.

She had 2 weeks of several blood tests, and then nothing.

She called the drs who said last 3 tests were clear and all back to normal. ... Why didn't anyone tell me, I've been worrying... Oh sorry.

Anyways.

It's never happened since, and that was a couple years back...

They never said why it happened, but she's back on all her meds, and all is fine.

Which anti inflammatory do you take?

Ibroprufen etc can give a funny liver when taken for a long time , so you might ask to shift from this.

I developed non alcoholic fatty liver from being a victim of poly pharmacy for over 9 years. I think it was the 6 Tylenol #3 I was using daily ( morning, afternoon and night ) but I’m not certain.

I had elevated liver enzymes levels.

After years of waiting for surgeries that should have been done long before they were, I was able to completely wean off the above med and eventually four more. My liver enzymes are normal now.

Try not to worry but discuss it with your doctor. Find out what test (s) were abnormal and how badly. Do not ever drink liquor while taking pain medications. Good luck.
