Sounds a bit odd as using topically very little is actually absorbed in the system. Only a very small amount should be used and not over a wide area.

Hi Bantam12 the area in question is both my calf muscles also the soles of both my feet .I also take cocodamol 40/500 pills .

That's quite a big area but are you sure it's not the co codamol tabs as they will definitely make you tired.

Hi Samtheoap, Massage of any kind , releases feel good endorphins and relaxation , even though you’re not always aware of this .

Endorphins cause the body to relax , this could likely be the real cause of your sleepiness after applying the ibuprofen gel.

Maybe try to enjoy the feeling and then after , go for a walk and fill your lungs with fresh air .

Maybe the massaging into calves and feet is why you fall asleep??

Could it be possible that the pain and inflammation in your calves and feet were causing you to be hyper alert and using more energy. So when the pain and more importantly the inflammation went down, you sort of relaxed and felt sleepy?

I don't find it specifically makes me sleepy, however if the pain reduces after using it then this will often make me sleepy as my body is getting a break from the intensity. Hope that makes sense.

Glad you found something that helps you sleep at night . I agree that the relief of ongoing pain can definitely relax you enough that you will feel tired , there are not really any ingredients in the gel that would actually cause you to be sleepy but if it’s working that’s great ! Take care !

Use it regularly and not noticed this, if I had would have used more as I have a sleep problem. Only a suggestion, but could it be that when you have used it you relax and that is why you nod off. If so I would continue to use it where appropriate.

Anything you rub into the body can get into the bloodstream, impossible to say why it would make you sleepy.

Does sound strange that putting on a cream/gel would have that affect. I’m on the same strength of Co-codamol and that would from time to time make me tired. Just be careful if you drive not to apply that stuff before hand!👍
