Dystonia diagnosis

Hi everyone, I've recently been told that I might have dystonia in my foot and I was just wondering if there is anyone on here that has been diagnosed with or is currently on their way to getting a diagnosis of dystonia that would be able to give a bit of an insight into it. Such as how long it took to get a diagnosis, what specialists you had to see, and what type of tests you had to have. I've tried to do some research but can't seem to find much information on the process to a diagnosis. Thanks

Well CasRobbins, interesting question. My freind had Myatonic Dystonia which is one of the rare severe ones. However I beleive Dystonia itself is a word signifying lack of control of said muscles . A bit like cramp, hand tremors ect Think its best to wait till you get more detail from your specialist as there are lots of types of Dystonia, some quite severe and others quite minor. I have a benign hand tremor which is one of the Dystonias . If its one of the more severe ones the process to diagnosis can be quite long. Many Dystonias are herditary also. Without knowing what Dystonia you have it will be difficult to find real answers but there are more drugs now to control symptoms and much more research available.
