I’m just wondering something I’ve had pain for over a year and I finally got some answers about my chest the doctor said it was costocondritis / tietze syndrome but I developed indigestion a few months ago and it was a every day thing but I was given omeprazole and I’ve been taking it on and off as it does help when I need it but I’m just wondering if this has anything to do with what I’ve been told I have as I didn’t think indigestion was linked?

Hi there, I’m not medically trained and wouldn’t attempt to give you advice, omeprazole is given for gastric issues and costocondritis is inflammation and/or swelling of the joints where the ribs join the sternum. Hope this helps

If you are taking regular anti-inflammatory medications for your chest that could cause gastritis. Omeprozole is a PPI, a drug that protects the stomach from regular irritation that can be caused by anti inflammatory drugs.

You need the pain relief bit you also need the stomach protection

I suspect that is what the situation is anyway.

I believe you should be taking the omeprazole every day, it's intended more for prevention. Ask your chemist or doc.

I agree, omeprazole is meant to be taken regularly to either treat or prevent problems with the stomach, either because of gastric reflux or because of drugs like NSAIDs that can affect the stomach. So you need to take it every day according to the dose they recommended.

Dear Clo_xo-,

I don't know much, or indeed anything, about Costochondritis/ Tietze Syndrome I'm afraid. However Omeprazole stops, different drugs, from Reacting both with 'each other', and Your Stomach Lining! I have been 'On' this for many years now, despite- quite a few- Drug Changes, over the years.

I just thought that I'd Mention this Clo_xo-

Your chest pain is highly likely to be nerve pain from a vitamin b12 deficiency.Taking antiacids, betablockers, statins is only going to cause indigestion , reflux, heart burn , difficulty swallowing & progressively deplete vitamin B12 even further. Ask for active vitamin B12 , homocysteine,MMA , folate , iron ,Vit D , rbc magnesium levels. If you would like to learn more than view info & videos on b12awareness.org.
