Pain in my leg

I have had pain in my left leg for some years now and it is some what slightly bigger than my right . Now I have pointed this out to my doctor who seems to not take it seriously. Now I took up riding a bike which seem to help . . Well I've ended up having a few falls . A year ago I knocked it quite bad . Coursing a lot of pain . No it wasn't broken but it has made my varicose veins worse and now my leg hurts every day . I did ask if it was thrombosis only to be told its just old age I'm only 50 . I do how ever have a trapped nerve in my hip . Which I've had since I was about 34. I had been receiving physio , they told me that what was happening to my leg was nothing to do with my trapped nerve. Can anyone shed any light or words of advice ?? Many thanks in advance

Hello 2Grandmar, I would keep up the exercises, I have had varied pains over the years since around my thirties which improved with exercise, until just recently when a pain turned out to be not a meniscus tear but arthritis of the knee. It is avoided in respect of op treatment until you are older not sure why. I have lost a little weight but not enough to do much good sadly. Take care and stay safe, if pain increases seek medical assistance.

Yes I sadly have gained weight that don't help i know . But thankyou

As there is a time limit for replacement knees, 10-14 years usually, they know if you have one now, you will need another one, and they are cutting back. Quelle surprise! They only want to do it once, so it will last until you die!

Yes it is about only doing it once if possible, I personally think they will cut back now since the cost of virus to the nhs. suppose some could afford private but it is a lot of money around £15,000 for one knee. I count myself lucky to have been given it

I am surprised that the physio says that the pain n the leg is not related to the trapped nerve. There is something called referred pain where the pain you feel isn't where the pain originates. At the moment they think I have hip osteoarthritis, but I feel the pain in my upper leg and my back because the pain radiates from the hip rather than being felt in the hip. As for the old age thing, I think that is just an excuse to not investigate!

I think the physio was referring the my leg been bigger than my right . But I to thought it odd as I have read that a trapped nerve that courses pain can and dose travel. So many thanks

Compartment syndrome if you hit your leg hard enough to cause this (I have this after a motorcycle accident as a kid) and this could cause one leg to look larger and have pain.

in reply to Batty1

Sorry to hear that . But I leg has been bigger for some time now even before I hit my leg but thankyou

The same thing has happened to me. Many years ago by accident I found out that one of my legs was longer than the other and one foot was bigger than the other. I saw a specialist at he hospital because it just didn't look right, he told me I was born this way and there was nothing he could do. How did he know this, He never looked at my records, I had never seen him before in my life. It is nothing to do with your age, they always say that because he obviously does'nt know. If you can though and you are not in considerable pain I would try to exercise to keep your mobility going, otherwise it could make matters worse. I hope this helps
