Any advice please.... For around 8 years I've had this throbbing leg pain. I get it around 2 to 3 times a week and both my thighs absolutley throb to the point I cry it's like growing pains but far worse dull achey severe pain. Sometimes if iv walked far that evening il get the pain but other times it can happen if I haven't walked anywhere at all. Had bloods to check vit d as i was deficient but that's fine now also had this test with pins in my legs to check nerves that's fine. It feels really deep in the muscles and my legs just throb the thighs. It's horrendus

I suffer from deep muscle pain in my legs every night and sometimes during the day which is due to fibromyalgia. I also have arthritis but that is mainly in the joints. I use different things to try relieve the pain. I take dihydrocodeine and paracetamol every night, lidocaine patches, cbd cooling cream, arnica rub which heats the muscles, I think I ve tried just about everything. I also use heat pads, cold pads, massage mat. The list goes on. To be honest I find the things that I buy myself which are expensive are generally the best.

Hope you find something that works for you.

Take Care

I can get rid of the pain with pain meds but what it is that's bugging me is what's causing it its like a dull ache throbbing pain if I don't take the meds when I feel it coming on it will last a good few days xxxx

I would speak to your Gp only way to get any answers to what’s going on with your legs could be restless legs, fibromyalgia. I am not a dr so have no other ideas.

I’ve a feeling your thigh muscles are affected by your hips, like a referred pain. Maybe an X-ray of both hips? Best Wishes, hope you find out soon and get it resolved.

Just a thought, I’m no doctor of course but I’m always research my own issues. Have a look at symptoms of polymyalgia rheumatica, not for one moment suggesting you have it, I’d probably start with X-ray of hips, do you get groin pain? That’s often linked with arthritic hip.

It sounds like you need to ask your GP for some advice as it’s really affecting you, best wishes

Good morning N_hen, your story sounds similar to many chronic pain sufferers and the answer the same from GPs. Muscle pain can be caused by many illnesses and also on occasions a side effect of drugs. Regular light exercise can often help build up muscles so they do not ache so much. But that wont work if the underlying cause is another illness like thyroid imbalance. The latest excuse for not investigating pain is to diagnose Depression (beware). However having said that low dose antidepressants are commonly used for chronic pain these days. Keep up with your own ways of releiving pain till you can maybe persued the Gp to investigate further or try another treatment. Best wishes and good luck at finding an answer to treatment for your pain.

Hello I have suffered post partum thyroiditis 3x now but I only get it after delivery my thyroid has been stable for some time now and its still happening. I don't take any meds at the mo just paracetamol now. I do have varacouse veins but in my calfs the pains in the thighs. I just put up with it as I feel like I'm pestering them xx

Hi again, so that rules out one thing your Thyroid, not really as thyroid imbalance can occur at anytime example my husband had an operation in his thirties but in his late fifties it went totally haywire after years of normality. I had a similar incidence recently with my uric acid levels they suddenly went sky high only change was my painkillers, I have a raised uric acid level normally but it was two times above normal. I use a cream called Dynamint it does ease the pain but in my case is short lived as I have bone & muscle pain but anything is worth a try. Have you tried herbal remedies? like tumeric, glucosamine ect. If you have a chinese herbalist they can make you special concoctions but a bit pricey as are the specialist companies on line. If its your thighs it might be a pelvic or hip problem causing extra strain on your muscles, alas varicose veins notoriously cause aching legs. If they are large they can be operated on. Hope this gives you a couple of options if you haven't already tried these things. Hyaluronic acid used in creams helps too as this is a drug they use in injections for large joints. Voltarol eases muscles as well as joints. Chilli cream is another good one for pain releive. Better go you will get eye strain reading all this take care and good luck with finding a solution.

if you have just come out of hospital after an hysterectomy all the more reason why you should be able to speak to your doctor. But i understand what you mean. I am waiting to go into hospital so my gps have put treatment on hold, plus the virus holding up the operation. You need to take care if you have had an Hysterectomy it takes at least 12 weeks to get over sometimes even more so take care

Why the hysterectomy?

in reply toMixedBag

Awhhh that was something different I had endo and fibroid, also very heavy bleeding that wouldn't stop I had been put in to a medically induced menopause but nothing stopped it also lots of meds. Severe pain every few weeks so I had it done

just curious. I had a hysterectomy because I was literally bleeding to death. I had severe pains in my thighs a couple of years ago. It was excruciating. I have MS so I know what pain is and have a prescription for pain. This was a whole different level, Almost like birth contractions on steroids. Starting out small and then waving up. I had to call 911. The fire department arrived first and I climbed up the front of a fireman and onto his shoulders and started down his back.. It happened a month later too. I never found out what it was but the only thing that helped me was a heavy duty muscle relaxer. I hope you find an answer!

I am so grateful for this reply, it made me look at my under active Thyroid and symptoms of not taking enough levothyroxin and it says muscle pain etc a lot of the same symptoms of either a PMR flare or withdrawal from steroids. With my doctors consent I upped my thyroid medication and my legs are much much better x

I recently developed deep severe muscular pain in both upper arms i could not explain over a few weeks got so severe and regular i saw my gp who recognised the condition and did bloods. The results cofirmed very high inflammation level. Put me on a steriod,Predisolone . Almost immedialy and to me miraculously, pain ceased completly. The condition is .known as PMR and can affect any muscle group. No body knows why.

This is just how my legs are at the moment they are driving me mad a little in the day loads at night. I also think it maybe my thyroid as I have come down from 100mg to 50 mg in a month.
