Leg Pain

Hi, I have posted recently about my leg pain which goes from bottom area to foot. It is so painful I can hardly walk. It stops me going out . Well I had the MRI yesterday so hoping this will show something. I am taking cocodamol. At the moment just the 15/500. They do give some relief and enable me to walk, but cause constipation so I only take them if I have to go out. Unfortunately I am taking Solifenacin which also cause constipation double whammy. Really don’t know what can have caused it . One day fine next day pain but one that has got worse over the time. Even doc has no idea. Sorry but it helps to vent out , just want it sorted. Sorry I know some of you are in worse pain than me. Everyone coming to me Christmas ….help. Anyway happy Christmas to you all.

Hi Alloagirl,

Sorry to read of your dramas. I've been taking CoCodomol 30/500 (prescription grade ) for a few years now and I do agree about the constipation. However, what ya see is what ya get .... I have experimented with other pain killers but they just give me Diahorrea ... useless. So its always CoCodomol for me - at least it's fairly easy to adapt to the constipation. I deal with that by buying ( from ASDA where we do our weekly grocery shop ) Zeina Deglet Nour Dates ( stones removed ) - check them out. I chew these and digest them, one or two a day - maybe every other day several days a week, just get into a regular habit and it eases the constipation. Alternatively I nibble away on green grapes every so often. Either /or do help with the constipation.

I know what you mean about pain ... I tripped over our cat and smashed my left shoulder into the hallway door jamb on 15 November, am just beginning to feel human again but still alot of pain and sleep is still an on going problem. Anyway I hope things work out for you - meanwhile - wishing you a Happy Christmas.

John

I agree, dates help greatly with constipation.

Just interested to know if you take them regularly. Don’t know if the doc will up my prescription as these are not doing much. If it is nerve related they won’t. I have a high fibre diet plus prune juice and plenty of water. Constipation has been a problem for me most of my life so these drugs just add to the problem.. Wishing you a happy Christmas too.

Hi Alloagirl,

In the normal course of life I do not need, nor have I ever needed laxatives. I prefer dates to grapes. That said my grade of Cocodomol (30/500) does the constipation bit quite well . If it is particularly severe I eat dates out of the packet two or three at a time and then I'll stop for half a day or maybe several days ... depends how well they work. Other times I nibble dates whenever I feel like it - but only one or two.

I will be so interested to find out what results they give you from the MRI. I had this for months last year backwards and forwards to gp, they didn't have a clue. Just pilled on the morphine liquid, tablets and patches. Nothing really helped. I have Rheumatoid arthritis and my consultant have me 30mg of prednisolone steroid tablets in August and I only finished tapering them 2 weeks ago. My pain everywhere went. Now I'm off them the pain from my buttock down my leg into my foot is back a little. I got that I couldn't walk, was in a wheelchair and got a mobility scooter. As the steroids took the leg pain away together with my usual RA pain I was told it must be the RA causing my leg pain too.

I hope you get conclusions from the MRI. please let me know what they say.

Merry Christmas! X

Hi, I am so sorry that you have this pain as well. Mine started in September, quite bearable then, but has got progressively worse. Now I cannot walk except around the house. Yesterday dosed myself up on 15/500 CoCodamol which only helped slightly and went to Tescos for our Christmas shopping. It was agony. Will not be doing that again. I do need stronger painkillers but I do not know how you coped with yours as I suffer constipation and even with the mild Cocodamol have to take laxatives. I am hoping they find something with the MRI that can be treated one way or another. Dreading Christmas as my family coming to me, think I will be needing a wheelchair. I hope the pain is only slight and you can manage without any aids. I certainly will let you know the outcome of my MRI. Merry Christmas to you.

I hired a wheelchair from the British red cross. I didn't go out except for hospital and gp appointments so used it then. I had a fracture vertabrae too so that didn't help. Yes the doc gave me laxative drinks but I only needed them a few times. I'm on other meds that can do the opposite to constipation so I think it was all evened out lol.

Get the family to muck in and only do what you can do. I hope you can still have some laughter with the family. I spent Christmas day in bed last year and sent hubby off to his brother's for dinner. I just couldn't do anything.

Best wishes and merry Christmas and I'll look out for you posting about any results. X

I take cocodamol and it gives me constipation when I take higher dose. However I take Movicol which prevent the constipation. I don't take it every day, but do take it regularly. If I take full sachet of movicol every day it gives me stomach cramp, but I've played arounf with the dosage and now mostly only need half a sachet which gives me no stomach cramp. It is a bit trial and error, but the cocodamol makes such a difference pain wise.

Yes, wise to plan ahead over Christmas so as not to end up with more pain.

Thank you for your reply. I use Lactulose have had to use it when taking Solifenacin which I still take and now need the cocodamol which makes matters worse. I take the 15/500 but only once a day. The other times 8/500. So I get only mild pain relief and do not go out much as cannot walk with this leg pain and pins and needles. Still waiting for results from MRI. Hoping the GP has better suggestions for pain pneumonia killers.

Hi girl! I manage the constipation by half inch of linseeds in half glass very hot water. Soak an hour or two. and consume when gelatinous. Keeps me 'going', natural and good for you, and no side effects. Just saying! G'luck and H.N.Y. TimbowPSP

I am so sorry for your pain. I know exactly how you feel, I have been limping for quite some time now due to severe arthritis in my toe, I also have a torn plantar plate which is a new diagnosis. now I have pain shooting down the back of my leg from my bottom. Nothing is being done for me though, I am just getting yet another diagnosis which 4 specialists have told me I have from a specialist hospital in Liverpool, until I get the diagnosis again the 5th time then they won't operate on my toe which I think is absolutely ridiculous. the diagnosis is in my hospital records but for some reason he wants a 5th opinion.

It does sound rediculous. It’s awful not being able to walk. I had no arthritis or pains or any warning. Just woke up one day with this pain which was slight to begin with and now excruciating. I hope you get some answers soon. Merry Christmas to you.

It sounds like maybe you have a pinched sciatica nerve. When I get that, I feel pain in my bum and it goes down my leg. See if you can get to a chiropractor to adjust your lower spine and relieve some pressure from the nerve. As for the constipation, I'm a big fan of enemas. I take opioid painkillers daily for lower back pain and I get constipated occasionally. My wife plays nurse and gives me a couple quarts of warm water and I don't have to worry about putting various chemicals in my mouth with hopes that something may happen down below.
