I have significant pain in my lower left abdomen, it started off a week ago and was quite dull and manageable, but in the last 24 hours it has become more severe, it also cramps sometimes. I don't have a fever or diarrhoea but I am quite nauseous. It is also tender to touch and hurts significantly if I apply pressure to the area. It's definitely worth noting that I was hospitalised three months ago for an infection in this area, because of this I called 111 and was referred to a GP appointment. The doctor says I have constipation. I've never been constipated before so I don't know what it feels like. But I don't feel like it's that. If anyone has experienced constipation or something else with these symptoms that would be helpful.

Severe pain in lower left abdomen
Hiya Kaitlynn, your body doesn't seem to be digesting food at the mo,bringing on the stomach cramps. If you consume more water, soups and things that contain fibre, your digestive system will break down your food in your body, thus making you go more regularly.By doing these things, your body should stop cramping up and yu should be as good as new in no time.Good luck K.
Hi Kaitlynn,
When I had appendicitis, the pain was on the left, but the issue is on the right abdomen (this is not uncommon with appendicitis). Just to rule it out I would gently press your right abdomen. The reason I say this is that nausea, pain and sudden increase in pain are symptoms.... thought it best to say in case its urgent.
Failing that, did they prescribe you any laxatives if they think its constipation? If not, it would be worth getting some as soon as possible and taking a high dose to get things moving. I have had severe constipation before, and it can get really bad if left untreated too long.
Take care, I hope you get this sorted out soon,
Matt
Don't know your age but diverticulitis would be a prime suspect. Gynecological conditions as well as kidney stones can cause pain on the LLQ of the abdomen. It seems unlikely that constipation would cause severe pain. You would be best off getting a second opinion from a surgeon if possible.
Hi Kaitlynn19, I have chronic Constipation, and it's not usually in only just one area of my abdomen when I do get it. Of course, a blockage could cause pain in one area of the abdomen. A laxative will not take care of a blockage. Diverticulitis Is another condition that could cause it.
Not trying to alarm you, but my brother just had emergency surgery for a blockage, and brother-in-law had surgery for the diverticulitis.
Also, seeing that the pain is stationary in one area, it's best NOT to take a laxative without a doctor's order as appendicitis could be the issue and that could cause it to burst.
That all being said, I also have been experiencing occasional sharp pain only in my lower left abdomen, but mine will last for short time Intervals then subsides again after an hour or so. It has been going on and off for over a month now. I do have a kidney stone and an wondering if perhaps it's trying to work it's way out of the kidney.
I intend to seek professional help with my GI doctor if it becomes more of an issue. However, in your case with it being consistent and getting progressively worse, I would make an appointment asap to get it checked out and have these things all ruled out or confirmed. Best wishes!
Hello Kaitlynnn, just wondering if there is a possibility it could have something to do with your left ovary. Reason I say this is a friend of mine had similar pain, and it was eventually diagnosed as an ovarian cyst. Please don't suffer this too long before getting another appointment at your doctors, or as known more now a phone consultation, but maybe mention is your pain a possible problem with your left ovary.
Take care. xx
