Anyone on here ever took naproxen for anything? Currently taking it for Costochondritis seems to be working slightly but not sure how long it’s safe to take it for. Been taking 3 or 2 250mg tablets a day for about 4 weeks

I take Naproxen as my now 'new' go to NSAID when for decades it had been aspirin. Unfortunately, aspirin thins the blood a little bit too well, it has been my top pick as an anti-inflammatory for decades.

Keep an eye on the dosage or you may well end up with a slew of complications. The directions say 1 tablet every 8 hours or so yet I take double that taking 2 tablets together every eight hours if need be. Whatever ailed me is gone and there is no need to take it again. Yet your condition is more crucial and the pain barely tolerable, 4 weeks of the pain you're experiencing is not unusual.

We know acetaminophen has no anti-inflammatory properties and aspirin has too many, so what about ibuprofen? I am sure you have already been down that road. Please keep us apprised as to how things are going. Good luck!!!

It seems to help but then some days especially if the day before I hadn’t took any or only took one the pain seems to be worse the next day

I am prescribed 500mg twice a day for pain due to spinal stenosis. I rarely take the second tablet, have been taking them for a year and a half now. No problems and they work.

Hi I have spinal stenosis, can I ask have you seen a specialist and if so what are they doing for you? Thanks x

Hi, I saw a neurologist and had a few tests for numbness reflexes etc. Then this year a phone call. The similarity of symptoms between the spinal stenosis and pernicious anemia is confusing the specialists and the GP. I am having to self inject B12 for the B12 deficiency which works wonders compared with how I was. The naproxen is supposed to help with any pain and dodgy reflexes.

Hope you get sorted, keep pushing for your self no one else does.

Oh I agree, I’ve had to read up on everything to do with it plus the osteoporosis which apparently showed up on mri, my physio doesn’t understand why gp hasn’t started me on something for osteoporosis, she seems reluctant to do so till I’ve had a bone density scan and seen neurologist, I’ve started myself on certain vitamins and some osteocare supplements as I feel completely lost at the moment! My gp is ringing this afternoon so may be slightly wiser then though she makes it all seem doom & gloom & i try to keep positive and plod on as normal as I can.

So pleased for you as I saw 17 Drs including 7 specialists to obtain a correct diagnosis.Just make sure you keep up injections as they are life saving. My hubby & I had 30 symptoms & we were Still misdiagnosed because of a flawed serum b12 & a lack of medical knowledge. We are on weekly methyl B12 injections ,folate ,& cofactors as we have hearing loss & permanent nerve damage in our spines SACD & severe cervical stenosis.we are on our 3rd neurologists as she is very knowledgeable about Genetic mutation MTHFR that caused our b12 deficiency in the first place.I take no meds only vitamins & minerals.

Be wary if naproxen if you have ever had stomach or colon problems. It worked well for me until I had a perforated colon and diverticulitis and ended up in the hospital. I’m sticking with Tylenol now.

Did the naproxen cause those issues?

For me, yes. I only take Tylenol when I need it now.

Hi I've been on naproxen for about 4 years now, I have a break from it every few months for a month, I take 2 x 500mg a day and I feel it does help alongside all the morphine, gabapentin and others I need so worth sticking with it. Good luck x
