I've been having ongoing knee pain for over a year or so,grinding and clicking and giving way.I saw a rheumy in March who said it was just crepitus.several times lately my kneecap has moved out of position and jumped back in itself, it can happen when I'm just sitting watching TV etc.im elevating and icing it but it aches a lot and hurts to bend.

Knee instability
I twisted my knee 12 months ago and had an ex-ray carried out by NHS. They reported mild arthritis and wear and tear.
I suffered on for a year but family eventually made me get a private opinion.
I am now awaiting complete knee replacement as knee beyond repair.
If you can maybe seek another opinion.
That's interesting Chapita. I've had "mild" osteoarthritis in both of my knees for 20 years. Over the past 5 years it has got significantly worse but the NHS mri scan and x-rays still show it as mild. I have had my hips x-rayed too in case they are exacerbating the problem. I've told them that I am fed up with this merry-go-round so now 3 people (2 G.P's and a physio) have told me I need knee replacement surgery.
Hi there
I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble with knee pain. Perhaps it would be useful for you to contact your GP for a telephone appointment and see what they suggest might be the next steps in treating the knee pain.
Here is a link with an information leaflet, providing more information about how to manage pain:

You may also find it useful to look at the following link which provides information about different topics related to living with pain:

I hope this information was useful.

You have either have a torn meniscus or tendon you need and MRI and a orthopedic doctor....the creptius is probably from the torn meniscus.... not a very good Rheumy and causing you more damage.
It sounds to me that the knee cap is worn and probably needs replacing. I've had both hips & one knee replaced which is great but I started having the same pain in the other knee. My GP sent me for an X-ray which came back as 'satisfactory however, when I saw a Rheumatology Consultant a month later, who was looking at the same X-ray, the first thing he said was "That knee badly needs replacing." I've since been told by a friend who works at the hospital that they say satisfactory because they are so stretched (and this was long before the CV19 outbreak) that they won't say it needs replacing because under the govt guidelines they then have to operate within 18 wks! I would go back to your GP and insist on a referral to a Rheumatologist. I hope this helps.
My doctor has prescribed Naproxen and I have a consultation with physiotherapy tomorrow.
