I thought anything more than 1 tkr was tricky and anything more than 2 was almost impossible. You've had 3? That's awesome.

Not for me it isnt

Sorry. I am not being flippant. I am in the same boat but less advanced. 37. I had a high tibial osteotomy 2 years ago. My main fear in life is not being able to walk in 20 years because anything more than one tkr is tricky. In the end they just fuse your joint and you end up a peg leg. My point being that being able to have repeated knee replacements beats fusing the joint.

No one has mentioned fusing joint at all. Its a nightmare

Hello Piglet

Have you looked at diet and avoiding all dairy and animal products. Having a vegan diet and healing yourself.

Dr Maudsley went on a portfolio diet and it was amazing.

My advice would be to google update Magnesium. We are what we eat

Warm regards

My dad is on his 5th knee! He was due to have his 5th knee replacement when he fell and broke his femur. So they did his knee replacement and pinned his femur at the same time. So far he's doing really well. He's nearly 80 and still gets about all be it slowly and with a stick.

Wow! If I may ask, are you overweight or diabetic. I'm 62yo, 6'3" at 320 pounds, not diabetic and not a marshmallow, just big and am looking at my first TKR. I thought they were good for 15 years?

Yes had an arthroscopy four or five years ago on my left knee, right knee is deteriorating at a similar rate.

They just say to leave it as long as possible. That I am too young. Pain levels are getting to the "throwing the towel in" stage and to make matters worse I'm allergic to anti inflammatories and codeine and morphine doesn't work well on me either. It's such fun.

I too am allergic to anti inflammotories.i bled and needed blood transfusion.on morphine I hallucinated.i can tolerate codeine although they make me drowsy, whichbis difficult as I am still? Working are you?

Yes I work, usually six until midnight, I wear two fentanyl patches, 50mcg/hour and 12 mcg/hour, around 8pm I take 100mg of amitriptyline and 150mg of tapentadol. All that I'm still in pain and don't sleep. Pain clinic told me to take the tapentadol earlier than bedtime as it can cause a slight high before the down. I find neither to be true.

At my heaviest I was about 23 and a half stones, I'm now just over 18 stone but at 5 feet 3 I know I have a lot more to lose.

Hopefully with the support here we'll both get to where we want to be.

I am 55 and overweight @ 320 lbs and 5' 5 with severe osteoarthritis in both knees. I was told 5 years ago when I was 50 and only had one affected knee and weighed a lot less that I was "too fat" (consultants words exactly). With my second knee a year later I was told I was too young. I have not got diabetes, no high colesterol and no heart problems or high blood pressure. I used to walk everywhere before injuring my left knee while using stairs at work instead of lift to go 5 floors and now I can hardly walk at all and cannot stand for more than a few minutes without severe pain and stairs are a no no. My knees also give way a lot and my weight is increasing because I cannot exercise properly. I dont even have good pain relief and my gait is now affecting my hips and feet. I have been offered a gastric band but if they had given me a new left knee 5 years ago I dont think I would be so big as I could have carried on walking and cycling to stay fit.
