Hi everyone, just done our weekly shopping at Tesco and it's a nightmare having to q to get in and then find some items you want are not available , I would do it online but I have heard reports that they were same what you put down you don't get , I suppose we have to make do until things return to normal. Clive.

Only supermarket down here with any delivery slots is asda - tesco, sainsburys, waitrose, Morrisons nothing for 3 weeks and you can't book further ahead. Co op, aldi, lidl not doing online down here. Bit of a pain if you are self isolating or if you are not mobile enough to get to the shops and don't have anyone to pick stuff up for you

I agree totally to your comment. I am epileptic and don't drive, so rely on public transport. I also don't have family or friends close by to help. The queues are crazy and people are asked to shop online. How can one shop online when there are no delivery slots for 3 weeks... I tried to register both with Sainsbury and Tesco and they have closed their delivery slot spaces for some stores.

I have just driven to 4 supermarkets in two different towns and the queues were ridiculous, I have heart and back problems so there is no way I can stand for hours waiting to get in the shop, I can't get a delivery slot either so looks like we'll be sharing the dogs food 😆

Sorry to hear you had problems with queuing and trying to get the products you wanted. It has been the same situation at most supermarkets, i.e. Sainsburys where they have limited people to 3 products each and on critical items, only 2. I believe shopping online has been a nightmare with some people only getting delivery slots 3 weeks later... Also the elderly and vulnerable people get first attention which I understand. How does one differentiate who is vulnerable especially when some of us have a 'silent' disability or chronic condition?

Hello lgd333 nice to speak to you, yes there are thousands of super market up and down the land, but are they all in a bubble surrounding one, in many cases yes! But not all can you get a delivery slot? some do some do not! But I think most people have the message these are not normal times. I have had two hospital appointments cancelled, that is obverse what takes priority, but from a personal point of view I am a carer for my stroke victim wife, how is my priority, whilst I suffer Arthritis, Osteoarthritis and Fibromyalgia I am in chronic pain low back and all down left side so much so it has brought me to tears, but at 82. years old I cannot get further relief for my excruciating pain. But I send all my love to those wonderful NHS. Workers everywhere ! I also think if and when this is all over, instead of The NHS. it should become RNHS by Royal Appointment. Hermes.

My husband is a cancer sufferer and has had his appointment cancelled. We are all in this together and must show support for one another... I am so grateful to the NHS and volunteers who are being fantastic during this crisis.

lgd333, I could not agree with you more, Volunteers have been a stounding I mean the numbers! 300.000. Unbelievable and today on T.V. I see these restaurant owner cooking meals for NHS. staff, credit to all. Hermes.

I would rather be alive than risk being with others who could have this killer virus! We managed to get an online shopping, Click & Collect slot last night and a local volunteer is picking it up and delivering it for us. Look on Facebook or in your local paper to see if there are any volunteer groups doing the same. Try a charity, plenty are offering help. Local councils are also running volunteer schemes.

Stop moaning the lot of you and use your noggins!

Sorry not all areas are the same, community's don't come in little boxes, greed comes first, weather its on line with an earliest on line delivery of three weeks, I lived though the second World War in London through the Blitz's, when every one had your backs, WVS. RED CROSS, soup kitchens tea wagons, so pleased do not preach to us oldies we do what we have to do, my son this evening told me of a super market going out of its way to priorities the elderly with a guaranteed on line service, from now on they will get our custom, we don't go out for the fun of it we have to live or try one way or another. Hermes

in reply toHermes123

Please do not preach? How dare you?! It IS the same, everywhere in the UK. This pandemic has brought out the worst in every town and city. The shelves are empty of the basics. BUT There ARE volunteers going out of their way, putting their own safety on the line for people EVERYWHERE! IT is NOT just the elderly getting priority service from ALL supermarkets, it is the elderly and the vulnerable and their representatives or carers! ALL of them. Sainsbury's, you have to join their vulnerable list and prove that you have had a letter from the government; ASDA the same, but they ask for proof of disability or age (I'm pension age, so don't preach at me either! You're not special just because you're old!) ; Aldi and Morrisons are exactly the same. I don't go out "for the fun of it" either, in fact I don't go shopping at all, friends and neighbours do it for me thankfully, because I'm high risk.

So yes STOP MOANING AND PREACHING, WE ARE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER, NO-ONE IS SPECIAL OR DIFFERENT TO ANYONE ELSE!!!!!!!

Hi there, let's all calm down on here , we don't want it to get out of hand , we were all born in different decades to one another , I remember the seventies sitting in my classroom with coat on during the miners strike and getting home and mum toasting bread on open fire . But we made a do and got through and life went on .

All of the supermarkets ask for proof that you are vulnerable and ALL of them only accept a letter sent by the government/NHS stating that you have been identified as such.

Yes, i have been to Tesco and was in the queue for more than 30 mins before i can get in the store because i can't get any delivery slot with tesco , sainsburys, asda .... . you can't wait 3 weeks or more for food to be devered . It is a nightmare!

Have you tried the smaller shops? Our Sainsbury's Local is better stocked than the superstore and only 3 people queuing outside.

Can you ask a neighbour? I’m in Canada where I’m at so far they open the store to seniors for first two hours so they get first pick at what’s been stocked. I find as well the biggest stores are the worst it’s hit or miss I wind up hitting a few stores. The specialty shops more expensive but I could find meat & veg I needed. I live in a very dense area so shopping is harder here

Hi giutara69

Here in the UK, most supermarkets are now only open from 8 am till 8 pm, rather than the usual 24 hours for most. They're reserving 8 am till 9 am for our National Health staff, and key workers - emergency service workers/care workers ect, but they can't stop greedy shoppers from raiding the shelves of essentials!

purpletwo profile image
purpletwo in reply topurpletwo

And that's despite restrictions on ALL food items. Some familes are shopping with a trolley each, and taking double what they are allowed on essential items! I just wish everyone would think before they do this

in reply topurpletwo

We are having this too. They’re only restricted certain items but if husband & wife goes behind each other what can you do. Our hours the same where I am as we have most cases. We don’t have times for service workers. People are being better about things. Unfortunately in my area there’s hoarding I noticed the tampon aisles are almost empty lol and soap toilet paper again was getting better. My dad offered to buy me a freezer for my tiny apartment but I have no room. Because it’s like organic chicken that’s double the price is avail but everyone’s buying else not enough restrictions. I noticed today the smaller places have been figured out that they had supplies ugh. & I wish parents would NOT take their kids to grocery store that are 11 & under because they’re touching stuff it’s what they do right especially the little ones hands in mouth then touching stuff you can’t watch your kid at every moment especially in line ups they should just take them for a walk or a car ride at least to let them see other stuff or wave to their friends outside their homes. Something to do

Hello purpletwo ,

Hermes123, Nice to see you thinking of the NHS. I think it would be great if a quarantined shop on hospital sights set up by wholesalers with the essentials at cost to all NHS. employees. Hermes.

purpletwo profile image
purpletwo in reply toHermes123

Hello Hermes, I think that's a really good idea! One of my daughter's is a mature 2nd year student nurse, but is also now doing hospital shifts as a Health Care Assistant (her job before Uni). The other is a carer in a home for adults with severe learning problems. They both have children, and both have partners in the construction trade without any income right now. Every penny they could save on shopping would be very welcome, and I'm sure there are many others in the same situation.

What I want to know is, what are online supermarkets doing to identify who is vulnerable (in Scotland)? As far as I'm aware, it's only in England that supermarkets are made aware by Government, who is identified as vulnerable. There should be some easy way to contact supermarkets to ask them to consider you as such, so picking a slot online is easier. I've tried to find a way of contacting Asda customer service, but it seems impossible.

At 67, and having Pneumonia 2 years ago, I'm probably at more risk from this than most - but not flagged up as such. Thankfully I have a lodger - on an informal basis - who I've told, now has to do all the shopping! He went to my local Asda today in Plymouth. Queued for 40 minutes, but got most of what I needed. No online slots available for 3 weeks or more, even for registered customers. Don't always have the money anyway for online shopping! Thankfully we have a local shop that's well stocked. Here, there are lots of charities/local groups/or just volunteers who will pick up essentials for you. That sends to be happening all over the country now. Very anxious time for all of us, but please check out any help you may need x

Here in nz we’re on four weeks initially of lockdown. We can leave a

The home for essential purchases but only one designated shopper per bubble or unit in lockdown. It’s working well. only supermarkets, gas stations, drs, chemists open. Yesterday was a sad day for our country and we had our first death from this virus. Our borders are closed and tourism which is our main attraction is all closed. The govt has announced huge soedpnding to keep people employed for when this lockdown is lifted.i know for many countries one deathmay seem insignificant given the high numbers of deaths overseas. I absolutely believe our govt acted in a very time,y manner onthis.i wish everyone no matter where you are in the world safety.

Oh and I live rurally so no queues at supermarkets in my wee town. Three supermarkets and 26,000 people live here.

in reply toLindyloo53

Hi Lindyloo, here in UK it's same as what is going on where you live , we have just gone past the one thousand deaths and we are two to y weeks away from the peak . The vulnerable people over here are getting free food parcels . Keep safe. Clive.

Hi from across the pond... I’m in California where our governor is so far ahead of the “president.” Somehow I’m wondering if what we’re going through is some kind of collective karma for voting an idiot to be the leader of the US.

I remember as a child I would visit the tiny old graveyard on the hill I grew up on and marveled at the vast numbers of headstones from 1918. I talked with my grandmother who lived through the flu pandemic back then. So when I started hearing reports of a novel Coronavirus in China several minutes ago I had a growing concern we might be in for something in the scale that my grandparents lived through.

We will get through this but there will be a lot of suffering and death. I’m 65 with HIV, my partner is 81 with COPD and he’s not sure yet if he caught the virus—fortunately in Sacramento there was no problem getting him into the emergency room for testing but who knows when we’ll get a response. He’s back home and I’m keeping an eye on him and we try to get as many things delivered as possible. I have been out to some different grocery stores in the past couple of weeks. It’s getting slightly better now, although Lord knows who needed all that toilet paper. Virtual hugs to all and let’s surround our world with healing love.

Im in the US n shelves r empty on essential items n some items have limit of one to customer.

Im not able or allowed to go out per my current health but ive heard what is worse than food shopping...people in the food stores biting there nails, wiping there noses, fingers in mouths.

Oh..that sounds like preschool with toddlers except its adults.Glad im inside.

Listen..everyone,everywhere is suffering the same with food n etc.

Bottomline..we have to support each other n not bring each other down.

Love not hate...hate accomplishes nothing.

😁😷✌❤

Yet again an assumption, not true I have had no preference other than a time slot at Tesco 9.0. till 10. AM. when got inside the shelves were empty, we missguidently thought the shelves were going to be loaded. so that was a waste of time, I came out with one item. Hermes.
