Treatment for stiff neck pain,
Hi Esther, do you have any other symptoms like tingling sensation or pins and needles. Have you got pain in your neck through the stiffness. Clive.
Heat helps, so if you have a hot water bottle, wrap it in a towel and place it on it or a wheat bag heated in the microwave. My GP gave me gentle exercise to do to ease neck spasms,
1) Slowly turn your head to either side, gradually moving a little further each time.
2) Gently tilt your head towards your shoulder, each time getting gradually lower. But not causing you more pain.
3) Slowly dip your chin to your chest, again, gradually getting lower each time.
If you start to have arm pain, or pins and needles, or any numbness/lack of sensation, straight to hospital.
Hi , i use tiger balm which you can get from Holland and Barrett , there is three different strengths . Also gentle excersise of the neck from side to side and hold for ten seconds that strengthens the muscles.
I have something similar these last two weeks comes and goes at first was murder trying to place my head in bed. I use a heated neck wrap brilliant and I used my movelot cream when it’s bad
Hi, I also suffer from severe neck pain. I find the only thing that helps is Paracetamol. I used to take Co-Codamol but not allowed now to take codeine due to being on Aspirin. Hope you can find something to suit.
Thank everyone for your responds.
I was going to suggest taking curcumin( turmeric) and/ or magnesium as a natural way to help stiff and sore muscles.
Every other suggestion is bang on. You might be able to find capsicum pain patches as the heat they produce is excellent for stubborn pain.
Paracetamol has the side effect of drowsiness. I’d use it as a last resort.
Do get to an ER if electrocution tingling pain presents itself. Good luck.
PS I hope you sleep on good pillows.
