Sometimes we talk about pain as something to beat, or which beats us, but it is more useful to talk about living with it rather than beating it.

Swimming is a brilliant idea. And hopefully you can pick up a hobby to fill your time. I do various things with my hands, but each one only for a short time. So I can knit for about 10 minutes max before I have to stop and do something else, like the filing! Then I can spin for a few minutes until my ankle complains, a few minutes more with my other foot, then I stop to get a coffee. You get the picture! Oh, and when I say spin, it isn't some new fangled exercise, it is with a lovely old spinning wheel.

I know your GP is useless, my old one was, just dismissed it as arthritis, and gave no information or advice, didn't tell me what to expect when it progressed or anything. (making an assumption here that you are a women?) There is a problem in that they teach drs in medical school that if a women says they're in pain, you can dismiss it, they are just moaning, but if a man says they are in pain you have to really take them seriously. That, added to the fact that until recently most research was done in men only, means that they didn't realise that osteoarthritis is different in women than in men. Because it doesn't affect men as badly, there was little research into what to do about it. They are catching up now. But slowly.

So what about bypassing the GP now and seeing if you can speak to the social prescriber at your surgery (they might be called a care navigator, or similar). They might be able to put you in touch with some appropriate activities, or support groups locally.

And Happy Christmas to you too, I hope the day goes well for you.

Sorry your in so much pain, know how you feel. Doctors just don't believe you, I finally managed to get my specialist to believe but not until I was so angry, I have spinal stenosis, scoliosis and Parkinsons and my feet had shooting pains but were dead, after I lost my cool she reluctantly did the hammer test on my feet and ankles when no reaction she believed me and has been a lot nicer since. But sometimes I understand why Doctors are like they are, I have a friend who is a complete hypochondriac and is at the Doctors constantly, looks up diseases on the net then says she has got them she has had every tests, x rays including MRI's. unfortunately her Doctor gives in as she never lets up, this doesn't help genuine patients.

I hope you manage to get some relief from the pain and don't miss your job too much. I am sure swimming will help , maybe a sauna or hot will help.

Happy Christmas to you and hope 2020 will bring better health. xxx

Joanzoe:

As far as finger pain from arthritis is concerned the best remedy is to wear “Therall 53-3505 Arth Gloves”. Just past this name in Google to get the best deals. I have tried other gloves (and there are a lot of cheap ones on the market), but these gloves really work. They run a little small, so get a larger size than you usually do for gloves. I use to get hand/finger arthritis in the past, mostly from computer work, but wearing these gloves while sleeping for a few days removes the pain for months. But everybody is different and you may need to do it more frequently to eliminate your pain.

As far as the plantar fasciitis is concerned, try rolling a golf ball under your foot until you feel a sore spot. Then massage that sore spot by pressing down and rolling a little on the golf ball until that pain is gone. Then continue to all sore spots and remove them. If the sore spot produces extreme pain, then you have found a "trigger point" that is locking up your foot and causing your pain. If this doesn't work you can eliminate trigger points as the cause of your problem.

Certain knee pain can be removed by massaging trigger points that pull the knee joint out of position, causing pain. If interested get the "Trigger Point Therapy Workbook, 3rd edition" on line to resolve many of your joint pains.

If you have hyperuricemia (excessive uric acid in your blood) try taking a half-teaspoon of baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) in a glass of water before going to bed to remove uric acid deposits in your joints that can be causing your pain (arthritis). It takes 3-6 months to clean out your blood, but it's worth it.

I hope that this helps,

Dean

I understand how you feel. The very people we believe will help us completely dismiss us and leave us to suffer. I’m so sorry this has happened to you. It sounds awful.

Try to remain calm, sleep as much as possible ( pain is exhausting ) and have a lovely Christmas. I hope you have family that can support you somewhat.
