ESA UC Assessment

I just had my ESA universal credit assessment.

Roughly how long until everyone hears back from them about the decision?

I’m struggling so much without the money I was getting?

Did anyone get it back paid

I’m freaking out over here

Oh ok. I’m bed bound and have been for ages, I’ve just had to change now my child is 5 from income support with disability top up and now I’m in nearly 300 a month less until they sort this out.

Now I’m even more freaked out lol

Oh wow ok perfect thank you, it’s already been 3 months

I thought you had just had the assessment? Is it 12 weeks since you initially claimed? I'm dreading yet another change; I already lost my Motability car thanks to the DLA to PIP changes.

Yes 12 weeks since I started the full claim and switch over from income support and everything to universal credit and ESA. I only just had my assessment for esa

Keep ringing them. I went through this when Income Support changed to ESA for me. I got the initial decision within 2 weeks, asked for a reconsideration (was deemed capable of work), then like you, was placed on appeal rate ESA until my appeal. That was £65 then (2010) and even though I still had my high rate DLA, I struggled so much, for almost a year. I won my appeal and was a further 12 weeks on appeal rate, but that was only after I got my local paper involved, they contacted the press office of the DWP who agreed it was far too long to have to wait and paid my almost £2500 back pay within hours!

But, you have to fight, and keep fighting, ring them daily if you have to (it wasn't free in 2010 either!), hopefully your decision will be the right one after your assessment, but I wouldn't hold my breath, they don't care!

I don’t know what those mean??

I’m bedbound and wheelchair bound they really can’t except me to work tbh

I have no idea what either one is either! But a quick Google brought up this, they're both for claiming UC as a sick or disabled person:

citizensadvice.org.uk/benef...

It is an absolute minefield!

Well I can’t sit or walk or anything so I will love to see what they say from this lol

in reply toItsallinthehips

I've read stories of paraplegics being deemed fit for work. I was and I can't sit for long, stand for long or walk far without immense pain (but I force myself to, just to keep going), they said because I take Oxycodone for pain I'll be in less pain...figure that one out! Their reasoning is also that others in wheelchairs work, they have use of their brain and hands; one man had use of one hand and was told he could work. So I wish you luck, but if they deem you fit for work, fight it and get official help! There are lots of sites and pages on Facebook who will help for a small fee.

I physically cannot work so yeah let them try. I can’t drive I can’t only lie on one side sit on one side for less than an hour I’m in so much pain everyday I can’t even do simple things any more I can’t even make myself food so they really won’t be bullying me into it

My heart goes out to you. I lost my job at Christmas after 15 years, I've applied for UC and ESA had interviews but not health assessments yet. Because I got a last pay from work at the end of February, I got no UC in march, not had a penny from anywhere! I have council tax arrears and they keep ringing me, but I'm too scared to answer. I have £1.60 in my bank to live on. Why does it all take so long and what are we meant to do in the meantime ☹️

Itsallinthehips in reply toHollypop66

You can get an advanced payment of your UC That’s what I did to live off before my first payment and I could take the full 1100 if I wanted to, as obviously rent still needs paying etc x

Go on your online account and request it or go to the job centre and it will be in your bank next day or same day

tbh I cannot remember exactly but seem to remember it was four weeks. But I got a minimum sum until assessed. On the ESA basic sum and full of spinal pain etc. Walking pill bottle. getting a final epidural next month. Shame as I have had 22 so far and you can only have 25 in a lifetime. Steroids attack your bones. General Election coming soon things might change for the better.
