Just wondering if anyone has had any success with a lumbar nerve block? Any experiences would be valuable. Thanks

Yes my husband has had many over the years. I think they worked every time apart from twice...sometimes very successful in keepng him relatively pain free for 4 months.

He now has facet joint injections as these work better on his spinal degeneration. And gets them every 6 months which is rare.

I never was told about this since I have many spine issues that I think is hereditary. Even before Ms I had cervical infusion on 3 disks. Sometimes it feels like i don't know what is Ms and what is in the genetic makeup. Thanks

Hi there. I have had multiple spinal blocks. None of which was successful. That said. What works for one doesn’t necessarily work for another. Give it a go. I was told it could last for anything up to a year. The longest lasted for four days. I’m sure like me you’re willing to try anything which I still am. Good luck

personally I've had greater success with nerve burns; the nerve blocks only lasted a short while for me, but good luck!

I had one last year, lasted 4 months

Had another yesterday, fingers crossed it works again!

Hi, I have them every six months, the most recent ones were last Wednesday, works every time, would definitely recommend it. Give it a go - if it doesn't suit you then try something else. Good luck!

I’ve had nerve root block under fluoroscopy twice. The first time effects only lasted 30 mins which was not what I expected. Three years after the first my neurosurgeon asked me to go for another. This time it worked but the effects wore off in about a month. As it was described to me, by the surgeon, “It’s a bit like playing darts and aiming for the bull. Sometimes you get a direct hit and other times you get close but not close enough.”

Considering it is primarily used as a diagnostic tool to check out the problem area it is very good as. If it has an effect, no matter how small, then it shows there is a problem.
