After two surgeries post wrist laceration due to tendon damage I have severe unrelenting pain in my dominant right palm, wrist and sometimes in upper arm for almost a year. So far medications has done very little. Diagnosis is of possible CRPS or median nerve damage in post surgical scar tissue.
Trip to pain clinic suggests nerve block in pipeline. I would love to hear what experiences you have had. Should I aware of any side effects. Do they really help in the long run?

Suspect after surgeries had long period of wrist strapped up unable to move. Muscle need movement to prevent over contraction of muscles and adhesion of fascia. You need to lengthen out over contracted muscles and unstick fascia that that is stuck together.
You need to see a sports massage therapist for help and advice. it is a painful process to lengthen out over contracted muscle. And it may take over six months of appropriate exercise to achieve the right result. You also may need to untighten muscles that may be clamping on tendons. This needs someone with appropriate hand massage skills.
I have an occipital nerve block every six months for arm pain and migraine caused by slipped discs in my neck.
My first experience I swore I wouldn't have them done again, the pain afterwards was awful. But, the relief of pain for up to 5 months once that had died down was worth the initial discomfort.
I would say, discuss it in depth with your pain specialist, ask him everything you possibly can, that is what they are there for and a good one won't mind answering any concerns you have. I would also say go for it!
