TKR almost a year later and lots of inflamation still.

Hi, I had a Total Knee Replacement April, 2018. I went to the VA for an evaluation a couple weeks ago. They Xray’d it and said it was all good. I told them I have a lot of inflamation all around the knee, have pain walking down stairs, and pain at night when I move it in bed. All they could offer is that it may just take me another year to fully heal. It occurred to me the other day that I am allergic to nickel and wondered if the same came be true for the cobalt. ( I think the implant is made out of. ) I have titanium plates in my lower back, which hasn’t bother me. I went to another ortho in town as he said it should only take a year to heal. Any comments appreciated. Thx

Hi,I had my op.in May last year .Faithfully did my exercises and have 103 percent movement .I am limited when I go anywhere if I walk too much I am in recovery for 2 days. Virtually cannot walk without extreme pain so have to go to bed to rest my legs. This is just not me,I am always on the move correction used to be ! Iwas out on friday for lunch with friends got the train home and had great difficulty just stepping on the train .After sitting any time getting up it takes me a few minutes to get going .I was told it takes up to a year but thought by now I would have more of an improvement.

Thx for your reply. My other knee has become just as bad as the one I had the operation on. I have decided that I will not go through this again. A year for me is April 12th, and I can not foresee this knee being better in two months. Im just going to have to suck it up and deal with it, as I find most Doctors to be incompetent, so wont be seeing anymore. I hope you resolve your knee issue in time. Regards

I feel your pain as it affects you mentally as well and brings you down. Presently I have overnight been wakened with pain but have now got gout in my ankle on the same leg as the T.K.R. I am even more restricted since my walking is poor due to this. Now enrolled in local leisure centre hoping to go swimming and an excersize class to help.
