Chronic pain syndrome!

Hi, I have just joined the group, I used to take amitryptiline for pain 75 mg at night combined with 200 mg Pregabilin 2x daily, and my main pain killer is Zomorph 60 mg daily, this combination worked well for pain but my mind and thoughts etc were extremely diminished taking this concoction. I have finally been very slowly taken off the amytriptiline as I had a nasty fall downstairs which has resulted in me having a fracture in my upper spine, which is painful but not constant. Does anyone know of any exercises that I can perhaps manage as I am finding that my muscles are wasting away, because I have been unable to excerise much if at all due to pain, and I have dropped two dress sizes because I have felt unable to eat because of pain, I am awaiting a dietician appointment but wondered if anyone has tried things that really work.

Hi Jocelynne. I have CRPS and take similar medication to you. I take gabapentin rather than pregabilin and tramadol and Co-codamol with amitriptyline at 75mg. I have brain fog occasionally and become unsteady and have also lost weight. I find gentle hydrotherapy exercises help. I use a foam tube to keep balance while stretching my legs and use it to push down into the water to strengthen my arms and shoulders. I also sit on it like riding a horse to float around stretching my legs and giving me arm freedom to exercise without restrictions. I go once a week. Start gently by doing about 20mins max and build up to where you feel comfortable to swim a little. Don’t overstretch. Basically you go to pain but not through it. A Physio can give you a set of exercises that will help. It’s so much easier to exercise in water as there’s less resistance and the water supports you. Hope this helps and you are having a less pain day x

JoCeline. With your difficulties I recommend finding a good physio or chiropractor who can advise on what will be suitable for you and your spinal injury.

If there is a hydrotherapy pool nearby consulting the physio there would be ideal as you could be given a series o exercises to practice in the water.

Atrophied muscles take a long time to build up and to a kid further injury then professional help is needed.

Maybe your GP can advise.

Well Jocelyn it seems you`ve done what a lot of people do, in search of a painkiller that works.

You have swapped one thing for some thing equally as bad but just in another reaction. I think its slowly dawning on me that there is no fix. Whatever you take the side effects will do some thing equally as dire to you.

I`ve had it with pain killers . I`m resigning to the fact there is no painkiller that works out there without it affects you in some other bad way , So I`m done with looking for any trouble free painkillers . Its like there`s always a trade off with all of them.
