My experience was not a pleasant one. I needed both sides of my lumbar done. It was so painful that it was almost unbearable . I need to have a Steroid branch block and I'm terrified. Can I. hear how painful it is I live with very bad pain. I am still uncomfortable with the block and side effects

Hello hambone123 I am sorry it hurt you so much. It is almost impossible to describe to another person how painful something is or isn't. Everyone has a different threshold of pain.

You have to weigh up what relief these injections can give you against the discomfort while having them.

As Paton says, it's a very individual risk:benefit ratio.

How much relief and movement do you get from the procedure v. how much pain and restriction there is without any intervention.

It's not practical to predict that for anyone as people respond so differently (some have tremendous relief and others have different reports).

It's a difficult thing to weigh up.

Not only is it hard to predict based on other people's experiences, it can change from injection to injection too. I have had several injections in my feet and with some I have a bad steroid flare, so painful that even thinking about moving hurts. Then others there has been no problems at all.

Anxiety makes pain worse, so maybe if you are worried about the pain of the injection you could try mindfulness or hypnotherapy?

Hi there, I have had 2 lots of bi lateral medial branch, dorsal ramiblock and si joints injections done. One was slightly painful whereas the other was quite painful. However if you let them know you are very anxious they will offer you a sedative to feel more relaxed and calm and it helps to make it less painful. It is different for all of us but that certainly helps. Good Luck.
