Hi

I found this website because out of desperation I turned to the Great Google!

Eight and a half months ago I slipped in the bath and did some rather nasty damage to some of my right hand side ribs! It was painful for quite a while but it got better. I mention this because... at the same time I developed the most raging headache on the front right side of my head. I did not bang my head nor blackout

The pain does not go away, it is there all day everyday, sometimes the intensity reduces to 6 to 7/10 but it is mostly around 9/10 everyday all day. It wakes me in the night, it stops me from dropping off to sleep, it is making me difficult to live with and affects the way I have done my employment, I am an early years teacher.

I have lost count of how many times I have seen the doctor, I have tried just about every painkiller/ preventer there is, and I feel that I am a nuisance patient. I have been sent to a Headache Clinic where I was diagnosed as having inflammation of my right temporal artery, mainly because (I think) It was agony when it was touched! However someone at Rheumatology looked at my notes and decided I didn't need the recommend biopsy. I have seen the physio who wants to wait until the results of my MRI are back (I'm having that this Sunday)

In the meantime I am in so much pain that I really do not know what to do, thank goodness it is the summer break. Each time I stand I feel light headed and have that 'far away tunnel' feeling so I have to stop and sit down again. I have reached the stage where if someone told me cutting my right hand off would help I'd do it.

The reason I am writing is really to be reassured, eight and half months is a long time to worry in and imagine it is every worse thing ever.

I do not want to be ill, I want to enjoy the last few weeks before my youngest son goes to university and my beautiful little granddaughter.

Sorry for the tome!!

An interesting post. We are not medics and therefore cannot diagnose you but I DO know what it is like to have a difficult to diagnose condition.

Having read your experiences I am wondering if the headache is actually nothing to do with your head?!

You fell and I wonder if you twisted and hurt your neck or back as a result? And are now getting referred pain from that.

Might be worth seeing a qualified Osteopath. I saw someone who once helped my back significantly AND was through NHS. Or you could try chiropractor. However I had a bad experience with a chiropractor and wouldn't see another one! Basically am convinced they made my back worse although I know of people who swear by them.

Also no regulations re chiropractors whereas Osteopaths are regulated.

Hope you get some answers soon.

I am sorry your head feald so bad I hope your doctor find out what is good going on with your head.

About 6 or7 months ago I did a simple thing where I park my can is a an incline very slit, was falling backwards what should have done was fall back into and sat on the drives seat but no that would've been the right thing to do. But I didn't I grabbed the door and cracked my ribs, and then I waited two days before I went to the hospital when I went the doctor touched me on the hurt. Now why I am telling you this is that something you would have thought was nothing but it hurt so bad. The doctor took the x-rays and could hardly see anything but said the crack was so minuet and it could take up to 6 months to heal. What I hope

Hi there

I am so sorry to hear that you are in pain with your ribs, I too was told it took a long time for ribs to heal, mine still twinge a bit especially when carrying my granddaughter. Sadly once we pass childhood the longer it takes for our bodies to heal. I hope you get help and relief from pain soon :0)

It has been over 10 months since I cracked my ribs I am feeling much better. Thank you for being concerned. How have you been doing with your pain. Have they figured out what is happening with you?

My daughter had all her ribs broken 6 years ago, terrible car accident.Nothing but pain since she is inly 24,although she spent months in a trauma ward too many injuries to list then months in a rehab hosp.Out of all the life threatening injuries she had her ribs give her the most grief. One of her ribs keeps popping out and refractures itself with the simplest of movements.Shw is waiting surgery to remove the rib.Unfortunatly ribs are one of the bones that seem to take the longest to heal and there seems to be nothing these drs can do except tell you to rest.

Pleased to read you are having an MRI , will that be waist upwards including your head ? you might have to wait about 10 days before you get the results from your Consultant or Doctor. And hopefully you will get the results sent to you in a letter also. If you need a DVD type copy of the scan, one can pay for it through the firm that organised the scan for you. It will be on the appointment letter you had. Not sure of the prices these days. If you feel the need to change your GP within the surgery, you just need to see the practice manager. I have done this. It's easy. I was asked if I wanted to make a complaint but felt it wise to decline.

Try and rest as much as you can.
