So, at least you now know for sure that you are having the op.

How do you feel about it?

12 weeks is a long time to wait when you're in pain.

Did they explain the follow up, physio and recovery time for both procedures?

Will you be able to manage when you are home after the op or will you need some help?

Well the doctor said if the tear just needs trimming,I can have the knee weight bearing for up to six weeks, but if it needs repairing I will need a knee brace and weight bearing again for six weeks it's either way the doctor will know when he looks inside the knee. Also I have try and bend my knee as much as I can and straighten as I can or I could lose mobility in that knee, but it's God damn hard but I am doing my best.πŸ™πŸ™.

Trying to not think about it too much at moment,as I have other issues to deal with but I think I will be scared because I have never had an operation.πŸ˜–πŸ˜–

My last op (2013) and my husband's last op (January this year) - The Anaesthetist care was excellent. Really nothing to be scared of. You can talk through any fears with anaesthetist and/or your Surgeon.

I asked how you will cope after as I heard that we are entitled to the first six weeks care free of charge. If this still is the case. I didn't need it though (only 24 hours rest after minor exploratory op - nothing found).

Will you be OK after the op then?

Will you be getting help?)

Yes,as it's classed as a day case so I can go home the same day i just need someone with me and have family to help me if I need it so won't too bad.

I had meniscectomy surgery last year - I started the physio exercises as soon as I was in the recovery room.

I followed the programme of exercises I was given for 2 weeks (exercises every 2 hours during the waking day). After the anaesthesia etc. round the knee wore off, it was a bit rough on the 3rd and 4th days because the exercises were taking so long to do that they over-ran so I didn't manage to have any part of the day when I wasn't performing the exercises or carrying out the therapeutic icing (scarcely time to eat or drink). But, it improved thereafter - and I had my full range of motion back in the knee within 8 days.

I hope that they can repair it for you rather than needing to trim and remove any.

In advance, make sure that you have a good idea of how many supports you need to be able to raise your knee to the height you need it when you have to keep it elevated. Have several packs of frozen peas that you can swap out to use for icing your knee.

If you have room in the freezer, it's a good idea to do as much of your meal preparation in advance as possible - and it should be items that can be heated easily and don't take much standing at stoves or ovens. Some sandwiches freeze well.

For some of the practical things, much will depend on whether you live in a flat or house, and whether you'll be fending for yourself or will have help from others.

I am still living at home,so have support there if I need it.I think I will start thinking about it more when the time comes but for now trying to cope with it as best as I can.

Some nice, happy distraction is in order then!

Let's hope fine weather keeps up and we can all get out and about a bit. Great tonic for taking the mind off pain and things.

All the best.

Love

Mary
