Hi I was wondering if anyone has had a general day surgery operation since covid has been going on and how long you had to wait for it?
I had a consultation appointment on Tuesday and have a pre op over video call tomorrow and I was wondering how long people have waited during Covid from the pre op for the actual operation?

Depends if it's urgent or not. I had possible gallbladder cancer so surgery was done within about 3 weeks.

I had a suspect polyp but no stones. Dont be surprised if you get a very dodgy stomach afterwards, I had to stick to a zero fat diet for many weeks and now need to take a bile acid binder everyday otherwise I get horrendous diarrhoea!!
Aw ok well I hope yours was nothing serious! Yeah I’ve been told all of that, I’ll do anything to get rid of them though they’re awful!

I can tell you my experience, I had preops with operation date in March last year. which was cancelled due to lockdown. I had further pre ops and in October I had major surgery. Day care cases have been going on during this time it depends a lot on what sort of surgery you are having and any other health issues. But if you have had pre ops it will most likely proceed as it is only day surgery. However not to be too optimistic as the type of surgery you are requiring is sometimes waylaid as none urgent as it is a laparoscopic procedure . Try not to get too concerned as they are trying to keep up with the routine surgery in most areas. My best wishes to you , I had gallbladder removal over 30 years ago when it took four days in hospital and open surgery , its much smoother nowadays in in the morning and home at night and a smaller scar and very few risks.
Can I ask what country you’re in ? I’m in U.K. and have had surgery followed by a 2 wk stay in hospital during covid in sept/Oct 2020 .

I guess it depends on the hospital waiting list and bed facilities whilst trying to keep patients socially distanced . Mine was an emergency and I was taken in by ambulance so I can’t compare to your circumstances . Hope it goes well .

Heck, I gave up trying to see my dermatologist or dentist. I was able to see my optometrist though. Good luck with a non critical surgery. Doctors are either too scared to or just don't want to work beyond a phone call. I have a huge spot on my neck sitting on top of a vein that won't stop bleeding, and am told I have to wait for 5 months to see my dermatologist because she only works 3 days a month? Sticking with bandaids and "new skin" and hopefully things will let up eventually. 😒
