I live in the US. I have spinal stenosis and have been getting cortisone injections in the back for 4 years. Sometimes they work, sometimes not. I recently had radiotherapy in the back. Did not help at all. Had to wait 3 months for cortisone injections again. Helps with leg pain as well. Worried about long term effect of these shots. It's a crap shoot.

It is a crap shoot every time. If symptoms are much work I would not have any more. All it takes is for that needle to go a teensy weensy too far.

Hello..... I had this done back last year in an NHS hospital and it made things worse for me as well..... did absolutely nothing for pain and the only time I was pain free was when I was sedated for the procedure! If it is the first time your wife has had it done, then she will be sore, bruised and a little unstable for a few days but that should pass and then as the time goes on she will notice whether it has had any affect or whether it's just made things worse.... i hope that you both get some relief at some point and send you best wishes and good luck for the future x

I've suffered years with back pain over the years of suffering I tried several injections in lumber spine first few worked after soreness wore off in a day or two I hardly had any bruises from injection site most times up and about the next day and pain wasn't to bad from procedure this routine worked ok for 3/4 times but then the very last injection I had crippled me with pain at that point I was offered a lumber spinal fusion had my op last October worked great first few months but now I'm back to square one with agonising pain consultant keeps telling to keep up with physio exercises which I do but getting nowhere so tell your wife if she's not happy to call her drs Secertary for emergency appointment to see him if only to put her mind at ease or a stronger prescription for the pain good luck

Hope it goes well.

Hello I had a Caudal Epidural for spondylolisthesis, three weeks ago. It took a couple of days to settle down and then it worked well for a week. When the pain came back it has gradually got worse and I'm not really able to do anything. I spoke to my Consultant's secretary and got to see him within a week for an outpatient appointment. My Pain Management Consultant explained that they could now be more precise with a Nerve Root Block as the last injection had been a useful diagnostic tool. I was put on the waiting list for a Nerve Root Block and I said that I would take any cancellation. Within an hour I had an appointment to have the injection in 10 days. I have fibromyalgia which causes me to have an amplified pain response when nerves are affected. I cannot fault the NHS and their treatment of my conditions.

I do hope that your wife's pain settles down and she starts to feel more comfortable soon. The steroids in the injection will take a while to start taking effect. The injection that your wife had may only have been part of a diagnostic process to get to the bottom of her problem so that it can be treated more effectively.

Best wishes.

Can you be more specific with your wifes pain symptoms? Especially full body painful symptoms? Any profuse sweating for no apparent reason. Burning, stinging, numbness, better days than others, or Intractable Pain meaning it never stops. It is constant (Intractable Pain is much differnt than Chronic Pain). Any idea of the name of Steroid used for her Epidural? If you had to take a prescription to your Pharmacy? You can find this information out by calling your Pharmacist simply asking, and have a print out of all medications if you choose to have one. They can't say no. Hoping to hear back from you. Especially her symptoms much worse-where and since thus ereeer

*SORRY, Since when and for how long? Getting worse - where? All painful symptoms and what it "feels" like? How long ago did she have the Epidural Steroid Injections and is this the only one or one of a few to several?

pain sometimes a lot worse than others'

What an insensitive comment to a forum full of pain sufferers. How do you know how bad our pain is and that the majority of us don't have pain worse then your wife. For all we know it could be made up. Equally it may be far worse then members on the page requiring loads of medication, coping strategies, pacing, physio and injections / denervation

When not having the pain myself I can only imagine how bad my wife pain is,she has never complained to me and 90% of the times she puts up with titbit there are times when it gets that bad she is nearly crawling up the wall.she once said to me its like the worst toothache imaginable in my back and bottom,in the past Ihave had toothache so that pain must be off the scale.
