Ulcerative Colitis
hey jan101,now I haven't had an attack of uc for over twenty years but I do remember having a stomach that sounded like a cement mixer, but my symptoms were so severe I didn't dare pass wind in case of a severe body fluids being discharged if you get my drift,I don't know what causes the wind,I presume it's the gastric acids or maybe the gasses produced by the actual puss that's often associated with colitis, just a brief insight how my condition started,I started with uc at 18 and I had several severe attacks which lasted for around a year, then nothing until 5 years later and then not only did I have the attacks I had severe stabbing pains, and I count myself as lucky as on each occasion the medication I was prescribed did keep the conditions under control and now I've not had a single bout since, but my stomach is not what they call a "happy" stomach,I've had constant problems with it a duodenum ulcer,an abscess on my appendix which required surgery, and more recently an internal bleed,I hope you can get on top of your attacks and try not to get to stressed out,eat a healthy diet and don't smoke or drink alcohol as this is an irritant to the bowl, hopefully you can lead a normal life and be wind free soon good luck
Hi CB1963
Thank you for your reply. I am happy to hear that you have not had a flare for so long. But sad to hear that you still have the ongoing problems with your stomach and have to have surgery. I started 11years ago with uc and I have never had a flare as bad as this one it lasted for 2mths. Two weeks ago the ambulance came out and took me to hospital as I had gone that morning 16 times. It really frightened me as I never had a flare like that even from when I was first diagnosed. Since then I have seen my specialist and on the right medication and it has all gone quite. Today I am going into hospital for a endoscopic to see what might have caused the flare. I have tried to have a good diet and am careful what I eat also I don't drink and smoke. Like you my stomach felt like a cement mixer and the wind was incredible. I felt like I could off taken off like a airplane. 😂 only joking. I am also lucky that I have never had any bleeding or puss. I feel like I must tell you on top off this I have also had 2 operations on my spine this year and two bouts of diverticulitis,Trigger finger, tennis elbow, and a virus. So with all off that on top off each other I have lost nearly a hole year. But on a happier note I am now coming out the other end and the pain in my spine is now really reducing.😄 I would like to wish you all the good luck if you have to have surgery and once again thank you for replying to my post, it really help when you can talk to someone else about your illness. You take good care and all the best.

Yes, I have it. It is very embarrassing. I did find out that milk is a culprit for me. You can take pills for it. GasX is one.
Oh, I don't know where you live but we can get them at WalMart, KMart, most every drug store, It is a common product!
This is a diet and eating problem. Shortage of iron in the diet can lead to wind problems. Poor chewing of food can lead to wind problems. Too much soya in the diet can lead to wind problems.
A change in the bionome of the digestive system can lead to wind problems.
Unfortunately you have to make a diary of what you eat and compare what you did the day before with what happens today. There is an approximately 24 hour digestion process.
Hope I have been helpful.
