I had a cortisone injection in my shoulder two days ago and I have been feeling very dizzy. Is this normal and how long will the dizziness last for?

CORTISONE INJECTION SIDE EFFECTS
Hermes123 Had a cortisone in my right shoulder week and a half ago, I did not feel dizzy but I felt very sore for three days, I have lost count the number of various injects I have had over my life time, but never one like this I am normally not bothered by injections at all, it was not the needle it was the sore after effect that got me, but settled down after that the old saying no pain no gain! But I think some body got that saying back to front.
Cortisone shots greatly increase your blood sugar temporarily. So this could be a problem for some people.
Thanks. The Consultant didnt tell me there would be any side effects. I assume the dizziness will only be for a short time then? Dave
When you had cortisone injection you should have gotten a note with it telling you what to do if you get contra indications - or explaining what you are likely to feel after having it.
Hope you rested up after getting it too if it doesn't improved call a pharmacy and speak to pharmacist for advice as they are quite knowledgable after all they are the ones who dispense.
Wish you all the best and let's know how you get on which ever way you decide on. 😘🤗
Thanks. Consultant didnt give me leaflet or tell me to rest or anything like that. Had it wednesday afternoon and ive been carrying on as normal. How long supposed rest although bit late now!.
You should have rested for at least 24 hrs so the cortisone can get to the point of pain - it's the same when you have acupuncture you have to rest after that too. Naughty consultant should have given you a print off outlining what you should do - I have had one in my knee for arthritis one in my foot for plantar facticious at different times one off physio and other off GP - told to rest by both afterwards and given instructions too again I had instructions after acupuncture to rest.
As I said with it being the weekend if you are still in pain I'd call the pharmacist to see if they can recommend something- it could also be a reaction/allergy to cortisone maybe it doesn't sit right with you.
Let me know how you get on. 😘🤗
Thanks. I asked the Consultant if I was okay to drive and she just said yes but never said anything else or gave me any guidelines. Being as I have never had one before I didnt think to ask. All I asked was that the anasthetic should be non adrenalin because I have AF and she said it was okay. If I am still dizzy tomorrow I will phone my GP. Thanks for your help.
You are more than welcome it's nice when you get feedback of this nature - I will always try and help peeps - that's the nursing side of me coming out as I had to give it up 30 odd years ago it never leaves you. Take Care hope it's sorted out don't forget to let us know how you get on. Hugs coming your way 🤗🤗🤗
Hi again. I am feeling a little better today. (hope I am not speaking too soon) Mainly not so dizzy. A pity it wasnt explained to me about side effects in the first place! Thanks again for you kind help. Dave X
Hi Dave glad to hear that probs are starting to subside and wish you a pain free shoulder once cortisone sets in. Take care 🤗🤗
You are a sweetie. I will keep you informed. You have already put my mind at rest. I live on my own and have so many medical conditions and I get a bit panicky sometimes especially in the night. I am 68 but have had medical problems for years. Love Dave x
Hi, I know this has been 2 years ago but hoping maybe you can remember how long the dizziness can last from a cortisone shot in the shoulder . Mine was a week ago yesterday that I received the shot and still having dizzy spells 😔 also I have been having extreme heartburn at night every night ever since 😔
Sorry you're feeling this way too, I ended up in urgent care because I started having dizziness, nausea, tingling and heavy legs 7 days after my shot. No one told me that was possible! The steroid I received was for facet joints in my back. I also showed a high WBC count. I have a physical therapy appointment on Monday to address the dizziness. I do wish they would have warned me about all of it as well. I'm not as dizzy as I was a few days ago, so I assume the timed release nature of the drug contributed to this surge in symptoms. Hope things calm down for you.
Hi. Ive had more cortisone injections since and I was usually dizzy for just around 3 to 4 days. I didn't have heartburn but did feel a bit sick but that also went after a couple of days. I also had trouble getting to sleep for a couple of nights too. Hope you feel better soon.
