Half knee replacement

Hi

Has anyone had a half knee replacement and if so how did it go and what was pain like afterwards and recovery times etc

Hi there I had a total knee replacement and a friend had a half done and recovery was nearly the same.

I was suprised at how little pain there was and how quickly i was able to get up and be mobile. This inlt happens because they pump you with pain meds. Alot !

I think this is so you honestly dont feel the amount of pain you would normaly be in. The hardest part is sleeping at night and doing all the physio you HAVE to do regardless if you want to do it or not.

If they say you need meds then you need them. They want you to control the pain before it gets bad and not wait until you have more pain.

It will probably take 4 to 6 weeks until your feeling better just not 100%. Thats very individule.

I was the same - the first 2 weeks I done so well and felt not much pain but am now in 4th week and feel more pain than at the beginning - I must admit I think I done too much a couple of days ago and walked a long way and suffered yesterday - I put ice packs on it last night and it did ease it a lot. Maybe am just hoping for too much too soon???? I walk round house with no sticks but outside I have one stick as I don't want to start hicking!!!! Unfortunately for me also is that my hip on same side started going wrong before I had op so it looks like a hip replacement as well!!!!!! That pain in groin is much worse than knee pain and I also think it may be affected my knee as I had pain from hip in my knee before the op and the same pain is there again. I am so frustrated as am relatively young for these operations but theres not a lot I can do. I did all the exercises properly and they were very pleased at hospital but I wanted to walk more but the hip thing is stopping me. Luckily I hope, I am seeing hip surgeon on 15th Sept so I am praying I will be on list soon and get back to normal life as its driving me nuts!!!! x
