I had a tkr 2 months ago and regretted it ever since because they stopped my pain meds and still expected me to do physio which I couldnt. Now I can barely walk.

TOTAL KNEE REPLACEMENT
Hi, I am very sorry to read of your drama, especially as I had the reverse experience. I have had my own dramas with other healthcare issues. I made a formal complaint to my MP in Westminster. That got things sorted. I am afraid being nice with the NHS today is a thing of the past. You gotta go for the jugular and kick ass! I hope things improve for you.
John
Not sure "going for the jugular" is your best course of action at this stage! I had a partial replacement five years ago, with complications. The most important thing I would say is keep in contact with your GP and the surgical team, make sure they know how things are with you, be polite but persistent in telling them you're really not happy and something needs to be done. Good luck!
My husband is in a similar situation although his pain relief hasnt been stopped ut everytime he asks for a prescription of his codeine hes interigated hes 9 weeks in and doung well but tge exercises are extremely intense arent they ? His physio has actually told him to keep with the codeine at this stage due to the discomfort from his physio and home exercises but our dr seems to think paracetamol is ok its rediculous and my husband is 65 and this is the first major operation hes had and first EVER prescription for strong pain relief I would keep on at your drs and explain everything or maybe if youre still having physio see if they can possibly write a note to your gp GOOD LUCK
I had a full knee replacement 5 years ago. I was signed off by the consultant after 6 weeks. I did exercises several times a day which wouldn't have been possible without regular strong pain relief. I mainly used paracetamol with codeine if necessary, which sometimes it certainly was. They have never stopped my medications since then as i continued exercising to rebuild strength. I had physio for my knee but also for related pain in my back due to the impact of walking differently. I could not have got back to fitness without medications. Others can maybe take anti inflammatories but they don't suit my digestion. If your GP doesn't understand why you need to continue taking pain relief to progress, i suggest you ask your consultant to speak to your GP, even if they had signed you off as I'm sure this wasn't part of their long-term plan for you. Please try to keep going with the physio and exercise in order to keep moving which is very important.
bgp244X....I am a 76 year old male. I hate to say this, but about 10yrs ago I had a TKR. It left me in so much pain that 18 months later it was replaced. The "revision" was no better, and this also was replaced about 2 yrs later. Now ,some 6/7 yrs after the first TKR in live in constant crippling pain, dosed up on high doses of morphine, barely able to walk. And I'm being told there is NOTHING else that can be done. Not even an amputation that I have seriously been considering. Life is now hell.
Keep up a small amount of physio and paracetamol 2tabs 6hrly. If need codeine as well go see your pharmacist, who may be able to get you into your GP and ask to be referred to a pain clinic. Keep a diary of what it feels like, when and for how long. Some places have special physios who assess the joint and may be able to prescribe. If you don't move the joint at all it will not lubricate and stiffens up. Just 5 or 10 small kicks up, whilst sitting is better than nothing.
Good luck
I'm so sorry and that's very bad that you have no pain relief
I had a knee replacement I found it a very brutal operation and was in pain for ages but I am fine now and painfree and so pleased that I had it done 2 months is still early days
I really really hope that you will soon turn that corner like I did and the pain will ease
Take care x
You need proper pain meds so you can do the exercises otherwise knee wont straighten or be pain free. My husband has had 2 knee replacements and the 1st went without a hitch but 2nd one was more painful, his gp only wanted to give him paracetamol but he told gp that surgeon said he needed strong pain relief for at least 6 weeks. He took Tramadol which wawas very effective. Sometimes you have to insist.
