Migraines
I don't understand why Dr.s won't often refer you to specialists there. Here, we don't usually need a referral but i suppose it had to do with your NHS? So sorry. Maybe someone from UK can help.
How about seeing a Dietition? I'm sure they could give you some hints and tips on what foods to avoid. Some GPs surgeries have them or you could see one privately. It's awhile since I saw one but I don't think it cost too much. And was beneficial.
Also do some research yourself and keep a food diary to see what might be triggering your migraines.
Hope this helps
Hi there,Ive been a migraine sufferer for many years and know how much it affects your life.I would keep going back to your dr and persist you need referred as you are entitled to this.Otherwise find a new dr who will help you.If they can fob you off they will so dont suffer in silence, you need more help than diet alone.Wishing you well
The doctor has a duty of care to ensure you receive the appropriate medical treatment. My first gp informed me I just had muscle spasms in my back all those years ago. I asked to see a different gp and explained the problem again, this one worked out that the spams were a symptom and not the diagnosis, so referred me. See another gp and ask them to verify if there is any underlying cause to the migraines.
I know pain makes pushing like this so very difficult, but keep going your health is worth it.
If he won't refer you research some migraine meds and see if he'll let you try them. I'm on Maxalt or Rizatriptan Benzoate 10mg. and it works well. Not controlled.
See an Alexander Teacher. The migraines could be a posture problem.
Make a list of the migraine frequency. Make a list of times it occurs and what you are doing when it occurs. Also have a food diary to see if there is 24 hr event after eating a particular food.
You must also list the migraines symptoms each time the attack occurs. It is possible what you call a migraine may be considered to be something else by the doctor.
Have a discussion with NHS England about the doctors behaviour. They pay the wages and have a complaint system.
Hi Vikig
Try cutting out these triggers for migraines and see if it makes any difference. Cheese, chocolate, coffee, nuts and red wine. Migraines can also be hormonal but whatever the cause they're horrible. Hope you find relief soon. X
