Brachial plexus pain

Due to a first rib resection a few years ago, I've developed neuropathy in my brachial plexus. Waiting for an mri then see what happens. If treatments fail, I've to get my spinal cord stimulator extended up to my neck!! Oh the joys of even more chronic pain argh!!!!!!

If you don't mind. Why did you have your rib resected? Was it for spinal surgery access? I would like to know because I had posterior approach to T12-L1 but there was an option for a side approach but a rib must be resected. I may need another surgery as the posterior approach was not able to remove the protruding disk annulus and mri still shows this pressing on my cord. I think my back would have been better had I not had the first surgery. So I'm cautious about doing something else but I have lots of neuropathic pain in my left leg and feet. I did not have this pain prior to surgery.

Thanks jerry

Sorry for the late reply Jerry. I had the resection due to thoracic outlet syndrome. The blood supply to my arm was being cut off upon movement. It was weird! The risk of leaving it was worsening of symptoms and development of an aneurysm in the shoulder. I chose to take the risk knowing either way, I'd suffer from something. You just have to weigh up the risk factors versus what could happen if it's left.

Hi Lydia, I'm sorry to read you're still in pain after having same condition and surgery as me. It takes a good year for the surgery to fully heal as it was a pretty major procedure. The subcutaneous nerves need time to heal (numbness) and multi layers of tissue have been agitated (pain). All I took was Cuprofen and 1000mg of paracetamol. Don't carry anything heavier than two pints of milk and try not hold your arm in a tense position - like I did playing Nintendo games lol. Keep it relaxed. Have you seen your gp? X
