The sciatica pain is so bad tonight that I can’t sleep. Don’t know whether to see my doctors about getting some prescription painkillers again? I don’t like taking them but also hate the long nights in pain.

Hi I know what you mean but you need your sleep as without enough you will feel even worse. Sciatica is awful and I hope you recover soon. x

Hi Cath05 I also have pain at night in my legs. I have Tylenol with codeine 10mg. I had gotten this medicine when I had fractured a couple of ribs. When I was at the hospital for the ribs they wanted to give me stronger medicine I said no because I can’t handle them. They are too strong just wanted to give you

something else To consider oh yeah one more thing I actually took this pill in half. Good luck to you bye

Hi Cath05,

Sciatica is very painful and debilitating, I was badly affected by it when I developed it while packing to move house. I was hobbling around often bent over as I couldn't straighten my leg, and as you'll know, the pain is there 24/7.I was given co-codamol, and amitriptyline, which did help me to sleep but not much with the pain. I just wanted to reassure you that it may last for several weeks or months, but it WILL go eventually, and you will get your life back! At one point I didn't think I would ever get better but I did, and you will, too xx

no it can stay, it only takes a few days off from time to time but for some people it stays.

Oh that's horrible.. I didn't realise it could stay permanently. The physio told me it would last between 3 and 6 months at the most, mine was 7 months. I didn't think he was very sympathetic though... He wondered why I was crying with the exhaustion of not sleeping properly! Obviously he's never had it. I do hope yours does get better xx

Hi, I agree it might go away for a few days and come back later stronger, depending on what your doing.

I know you only meant well, but unfortunately in a small percentage this pain becomes chronic and they are stuck with it for years or the rest of their life.

That's so encouraging - thank you! I've had sciatica caused by disc protrusion for 3 months now and it's no fun . There are so many depressing posts online - it's a refreshing change to find a positive, optimistic one!

Hi, the only thing that helps me with sciatica is pregabalin. Not what you want really but not sleeping is even worse. I had a discectomy ( no choice really) but was left with horrible sciatica and some other issues. It is getting better and I feel pregabalin has helped me a lot with the sciatica.

put some ice in a plastic bag or something and place it between your legs, instant relief

Do you have a diagnosis for why you have/get sciatica? Empathy is better than sympathy! I hope you get some relief!

Worth seeing a chiropractor. Over contractor muscle causing pressure to be applied to nerves is not going to be cured by a pain killer.

Absolutely! with a good one, 1 or 2 appointments and it’s over

Hey

Sciatica is horrible mine flares up every now and again mainly when due my period ??

I have seen a specialist about two years ago who explained there two kinds, one is when it serious as in a slipped disc trapping nerve which never goes but if ur does “ come and go “ like mine it means ur sciatic nerve has shrunk!

So u may have been sitting or laying and it relaxs and shortens then u get up and it wont restretch so u get sciatica!

So u have to train it to stretch it out all time so it never shrinks. He gave me sciatic stretches which i do 3 times a day( done it every day for 2 years without fail) and my sciatica rears it ugly head about once every 5-6 months now but i do them stretches and within 1/2 hour it gone!

So u must either see a physio or google sciatic stretches! I swear u will not regret.

Even got my 70 year old mum doin them and she swear by them
