Hello Carol

Have to choose my words carefully here!

Apparently drugs taken by this method are known to work a lot quicker. In France it is the usual way to give drugs where, not surprisingly, people have fewer ailments! And not so many wealthy drug companies either.

Certainly diazapan which was prescribed as a tranquilizer for my epileptic Collies was the human med and always used like this. Even came with a picture how to use. Made me smile!

If it works then that's a plus for you

Hi Carol1964 thanks for info, as Paton says many drugs can be used to better effect if given as suppositories, but some people don't like this method and not all people can do it this way. There are quite a few painkillers that can be prescribed in this way , I myself have used them for pain in the past. So I would say don't be put off by the method of use, as it avoids many of the side effects oral drugs create. Good luck with yours and hopefully pain free days to come. xx

Its strange as I've asked for them as I can't take diclofenic orally but was told they effect the stomach just the same . How does that happen.

They were brilliant for my sciatica when I had it.

I would be interested to know how a suppository affects your stomach.

It doesn't at all. It soften and gets absorbs in the rectum. 💗

Blessings.

I was told that the ingredient enters the bloodstream and hence to the stomach lining. Well its what I was told!

That's true. I looked it up and that is why it can irritate your stomach.

Well I was reading up on this and it enters your blood stream which the exposed your stomach lining to the drug.

I have been taking Diclofenac in 75mg Modified Release Capsule form for 14 years now. It's the only thing that keeps me mobile. The 50mg tablet caused stomach bleeding, but as the issue of 50mg was a cost saving exercise, my GP put me back on the MRC form.

To be honest I've never heard of them in suppository form. Think I'll stick to my capsules thanks!

Cheers, Catherine.

People who cannot use NSAID's because of stomach problems, like me, cannot use them orally, via rectum or via creams on the skin, Because they all end up going into your Blood Stream.

NSAIDs can cause problems right through the digestive tract as I learned to my cost. Regular NSAIDs hit my stomach hard, modified or slow release ones got through my stomach but have affected my bowel (causing strictures), and the suppositories can also cause inflammatory reactions there. Also, if you end up being very sensitive to NSAIDs then it can turn into an allergic reaction, so you can't take them in any form. Having said that, I do have some diclofenac suppositories to use very very occasionally, when nothing but an NSAID will do.

Greasing the most troublesome areas with a NSAID gel reducing the dose taken orally or suppository staying within dose limits.
