Antibiotics often make me feel like that. How long are you on the antibiotic for? If its only a short course,I guess you just have to ride it out. If you are on it longer term, then definitely speak to your doctor. Probiotic yoghurt can be good for helping reduce the gut side effects of antibiotics and replace good bacteria.

From what I remember these are regular side effects with tetracycline. I don't have a leaflet to hand. Are they meant to be taken with or after food? How often per day?

I take antibiotics for about 30 weeks per year. Several different ones. There are a couple that make me feel very sick. To the point that if I don't follow a routine they make me vomit. Fortunately these evil beauties are a 1 tablet per day. So I eat a snack and take all my night time meds and go to bed early. Then about a hour later or more when I am ready to lay to sleep, I take the horrid antibiotic and then lay as flat as I can on my left side. I do feel nausea but it is no where as bad and I am able to go to sleep without incident.

A number of antibiotics make people lose appetite and as Earthwitch says if it is a long course have a word with your GP.

If you can take the tablets well apart try to just eat something plain that fits with your preferred diet. Even a slice of dry toast or a small portion of rice will help settle your stomach but providing a sponge to soak up the gastric juices and to keep the system working. Obviously adjust to your needs. Small amounts though out the day even half a banana at a time will help.

Good luck. Rib

It shouldn't be but tetracycline is not often use these days. There are better tolerated drugs like vibramycin(doxycycline), cephalosporin line of drugs and penicillins like cloxacillin for skin infection.

doxycycline.... that's the one that makes me hurl.

Nausea can be side effect of antibiotics. There are many antibiotics available, but you would have been prescribed the right ones according to your infection. I hope you had a swab taken of the ulcer (taken correctly from the wound bed after the wound has been cleaned). This is cultured in a microbiology lab and the bacteria is tested to see which antibiotic is most suitable to treat it. This is my job. If you haven't had a swab, ask for one to make sure you are getting the correct treatment.
