Hi Marsh,

I have recently 'Posted', on the subject of Tummy Troubles- I'm sure that you will find this easily. One subject that I mentioned specifically was Constipation, I'm sure that YOU know all about this! Dare I say 'don't we all'.......

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is an Inflammatory Disease of either the Bowel, or Intestine. It can be, very much, linked to Auto-immune Conditions- like Vasculitis. (Sorry if you already knew all this) There is some evidence that it can, in fact, be 'Linked' to diet, especially food allergies/intolerances. Coeliac/Celiac Disease can 'Present' similar symptoms- as can Lactose Intolerance (though this can also Present as Diarrhoea)- worth 'Checking' perhaps?

Can I just add that IBS can also be a symptom of connective tissue disorders such as Ehlers Danlos hypermobility type.

That is a pretty big leap though and if he’s had it for years I’m sure his doctor has done a lot of tests

Not necessarily, it often takes 10 years on average to be diagnosed with a connective tissue disorder, and it is one of the most under diagnosed conditions. There are no blood tests for most connective tissue disorders, and most GPs won't be aware of the clinical tests to diagnose it with. I didn't know that that was what was causing my IBS until I was in my 40s when my son was diagnosed with hEDS and I realised I had it too.
