Hi I wondered if anyone had any experience with glucosamine. I have recently started taking it for osteoarthritis which i have in many joints but since i started taking it my joints seem worse. I dont know if this is just a temporary side effect or just a coincidence and wondered if any one had any experience with it. Thanks.
Glucosamine: Hi I wondered if anyone had any... - Pain Concern
Glucosamine
Hi margaretjo, It has been quite a while since I was taking Glucosamine. I was also taking Chondroitin at the same time. They were to help my knees after having them both operated on within a few months, to remove bits of cartilage that was breaking off. Anyway after a few days I was getting pain and tenderness in virtually every joint I had, I persevered but the tenderness got worse and worse, to such an extent that if I brushed up against a doorway with an elbow I would scream out in pain. I stopped the Glucosamine and the Chondroitin and the tenderness subsided. I still have a lot of tenderness in my Knees and Lower back, but thats dependent on what I eat mostly, and varies in intensity from being able to walk without too much difficulty to lying down for most of the time (up to four days sometimes)
I would stop taking the glucosamine and see if the pain gets any better.
Good luck
Hi margaretjo, I believe osteoarthritis is linked to vitamin D deficiency, have a look at the vitamindcouncil.com website and in the search column write 'osteoartheritis'
Vitamin D3 has certainly helped my joints, it has helped other family members and friends too.
I was struggling to get out of bed in the mornings and out of chairs too, I thought it was old age coming on early, even my hips were hurting, I even thought I might have to have hip replacements.
I'm not saying it will help everyone as everyone is different, but just checking out vitamindcouncil is a must as many people are 'D deficient' and do not realize it, I was amazed to find so many illnesses are linked to vitamin d deficiency.
Our local pharmacist when I went to buy glucosamine was of the opinion that to take it on its own would be ineffectual and that it was necessary to take it along with chondroitin.I have no idea if she was right or otherwise as I didn't go ahead but she was very good at her job and very well respected in the community.
