That kind of medication question is really something you should be asking your doctor, especially if it involves taking extra meds.

Oxtcontin is slow release over 12 hours and should be taken on schedule. ask your doctor about the best way to bridge the afternoon pain, I would not advise changing your dose without consulting your doc.

I agree with the other two. I take slow release OxyContin as well, but I take Gabapentin in between. If the OxyContin isn't working you must see your doctor. You should not take more at one time - it has to be the same both times. I also have Oxynorm, which is a liquid, to take if necessary. Something like that might help. Ask your doctor. Hope this helps. Good luck in the future.

Thanks for all you're replies I know will have to see go he will just tell me to up it again forgot to say also have liquid oxicontin for break through pain but this is much more sadly unable to take meds such as gabapentin as they make me very ill so now calling my gp

Usually a pain Doctor will give you something you can take for breakthroughs pain ie. When you get pain between your main doses of OxyContin. This breakthrough med will usually be a different one, for your own safety. I too cannot take anti inflammatories, but over the years I have been prescribed dihidrocodeine and Paracetomol, and then later Tramodol and Paracetomol. Both of these combos have worked very well for me. Good luck

Sweetheart I feel your pain. I'm allergic to anti-inflammatory drugs. I've had to go to a pain clinic and take Opana ER it has been a lifesaver. Hope this helps!!! xxxx Mitzi

You should ask for oxynorm for your breakthrough pain medication. You could try paracetamol if not already taking to bridge the gap.

Alternatively look at an antidepressant or anti epileptic drug like pregablin.

Good luck.

Already have the liquid but due to blood disorder not allowed to take anti inflammaties or anti epileptic drugs and only allowed 4 paracetamol a day I take anti depressants at night it is my blood disorder which controls want I can take plus I have started having serious reactions to some antidepressants eg read the side effects and I get every one even had to have adrenaline after taking 1tablet so doctors very wary only thing that is working is too lie down and rest now seriously thinking of motability scooter or wheelchair I look back to the days when I would shop all day and then dance all night oh happy days
