David finally received some much needed treatment, and hopefully relief, For the pain in his hip.For over 2 years he has struggled with the increasing pain in his right hip and weakness in the leg. Always been he 'good' one it has carried him for almost 30 years over compensating for lack of function in his left side. For 17 months consultant heas peered at X rays, poked fingers in the spot, sucked his teeth ans suggested very little. Bursitis was thought at one point to be the cause and 3 injections given. No effect. On the verge of having a replacement hip 12 months ago the consultant decided it was all connected to his broken back and #keep an eye on things'.
2 falls in as many months showed that leg could no longer do its job. A visit to the pain clinic and wonderful Dr James quickly moved things up 4 gears.
Pre op assessment on Wednesday with procedure on Friday. Dr James other' job is orhtopedic anethetist so David was in excellent hands!
The injection can be done under local or a general. David's was done by local going in through the groin. At this point he told me he closed his eyes firmly shut!
The whole point of this procedure is as it's name implies. It will tell the consultant whether a hip replacement would be of any benefit. If the pain continues then the cause is connected to the spinal injury. If as we all hope it does work then a replacement is the nest step. Ideally the pain will stop and no replacement is needed but life's not like that. He now has to keep a pain diary for several months.
We will cross the replacement hip bridge when wwe get to it. The recovery from that is hard enough for an able bodied person - for someone with an already broken and disintegrating spine - well let's wait.
Of course he still has to live with CP due to his spine - that's attached to him for ever and a day - but just maybe.........
As always I'll turn up my TLC a notch - for a while anyway!
