Sometimes there are no words

Here in Tenerife we have an excellent pain team with a full time compliment of staff working 5 days a week

David had his check up yes today...4 months after having Radio frequency ablation. It was to speak with Consultant about next procedure and continued treatment

Instead he saw another Doctor who wasn't interested in anything he or his interpreter said. Ignored Xrays, medical reports, and scans. Said he had absolutely nothing wrong.

No he doesn't have Ankylosing spondylitisNo he doesn't have Cervical spondylosisNo he doesn't have sciatica. No fibro either. Nope he doesn't have scoliosis. No IBS, depression or pain.

She asked what level of pain on the 0 to 10 scale? 8.5 he replies/ Impossible/ She has patients in final stages of cancer scoring less. He felt humiliated

With the help of GP and consultant he has come off Oxycontin and Lyrica in the last 18 months and now just takes 1 or2 Oxynorm. Too much...cut down to one a day. Starting dictating to him how to manage and control his pain. After 35 years of living with broken back he has an ology in chronic pain but she was having none of it. Stop Omeprazole too regardless of how messed up your insides are. And what's this Sertraline for? Stop that at once...you don't need it.

He came home and cried.

Now it is today.....

So sorry to read about your experiences.

Hopefully you can get back to your original consultant soon.

Maybe the lady was having a bad day, and you just got the brunt of it.

Has your prescription been changed.?

I know the Omeprazole is a nasty medication to be on long term ( is it a proton pump inhibitor) I was advised to get off it as soon as possible after my hospitalisation. I took Keffir for a while to get my tummy back to "peace".

All the very best.

Thanks Madlegs1

Seems this is her attitude to chronic pain patients. Certainly she needs to be removed from her job and be better pushing papers around somewhere else.

Have put in for second opinion but like everything here...manyana.

Yes Omeprazole is a PPI but having been prescribed the anti inflammatory for years....shredding David's insides...what is the alternative?

Obviously, I don't know the specifics of Davids condition.

I had severe stomach ulcer- they said the lining of the bottom of my stomach was completely inflamed -- hence the PPI. They then put me on a course of strong antibiotic and that seems to have done the job. Although I was constantly vomiting at every opportunity.😞

I do know that a course of secondary fermented milk kefir helped enormously get my guts back to some normality.

You can google Donna Shwenk (sp?) for advice on making that type of kefir.

All the best.

Wish I could say something constructive. Good piece. Gives strength to those who have met similar in the medical profession. You are not alone in meeting doctors who are too incompetent to determine what the problem is.

Thank yu Johnsmith

I have already submitted a formal complaint, requested that she be removed from all David's future treatment,, and asked for second opinion. Just takes time.

.

I want to make sure she doesn't get hold of any other vulnerable patients. Ever.

Now I just have to stick David back together with Blue Tac and refloat him

So sorry to here about this Dr she definitely needs removed and licence pulled. We have enough problems with out stupid Dr's. I've been there but I changed really quick. I have alot of problems I sure don't need anymore. You and David need someone who knows what there doing. Good luck I'll pray things get better for you two. Love susiejo1948

She was actually a consultant believe it or not. David's usual one is 'indisposed'......think that means pregnant!.

Heads will roll and I am starting official procedure.

Good luck you go for it. I'm one of those whose doctor didn't give a damn. Eventually, years later got a hosp. apt. It all changed then because consultant wrote her a stinker of a letter and told her what she was to do for me. I got a copy of this letter and I put my foot down when I walked into surgery next. She said "umm now let me see" And I jumped in and said " No doctor it's my turn in starting the conversation today" She sat watching me refer to the letter!!!! Now getting the treatment and been granted the monetary benefits. I could cry for you both, I really could but I wish you all the best and hope there's many of us here to send you strength and support. xx😺

This Doctor is actually a consultant at the pain clinic so has far more power than she should. Over rules our GP. She should not be allowed to work with people in chronic pain. I intend to take it to the top. Meantime we wait for a second opinion which can take months.

I can get David's meds privately but many others can't and they will struggle. She has to be stopped.

Glad your consultant helped you.

Thank you for your reply. I thoroughly agree with what you are doing but am sad because you shouldn't have to. AND I'm more than sad that David was put in this situation. Bringing this man to tears, no compassion just a big bank balance i expect.!! x😺

David was medically discharge from the Royal Navy 35 years ago. He sustained terrible injuries while on active service including a broken back. The knock on effects of those injuries have continued to develop as consultants at the time said they would.

He was awarded a War Pension.

Now to be told by someone, who never even bothered to read his notes, he has nothing wrong is an insult to both him and those who have looked after him all these years. That is what makes me so angry.

Now that anger has to be directed wisely

I'm lost for words. I really am...Like very unprofessional.

Until she experiences chronic pain herself, she will know then.

Some doctors are better than others. She needs lesson on compassion and how to deal with patients.

What a terrible attitude and so arrogant at the same time. She clearly does not know what pain is. If she cannot empathise with people and also ignores all previous findings from other consultants she has to be reported. So I so agree with your proposed actions. Having been in pain for over 3 years I so feel for your David 💕. Good luck.

It's time people in pain fought back.

Drs are doing the government s work cutting pain meds/saving money.

Most stress I have had is from NHS staff clueless, not reading notes, ignoring Consultant s etc.

I've stopped believing they 'on my side' plan strategically etc.

Have found if used sparingly a threat (which I would carry out) to legally challenge prescription decisions brings miraculous reversals of GPS decisions!

So shows Drs are denying Meds for financial NOT Clinical reasons, if clinical they could not ethically reverse their decisions.

Don't give in David s lucky to have you!

Heartbreaking, if only your husband didn’t have the health conditions he lives with 24 hrs 7 days week!!!! Sorry you’ve both been through this and go to see a different Dr, whoever you saw wasn’t fit to be called one.

If your husband feels anything like I do it’s hard enough accepting we have the problems & feel guilty about the effect on our partners..so you in this case & my husband in mine...the Dr has reinforced your husband’s mental & physical pain....arghhh!💔😡🤯 How do you feel about the way he was treated and how is he feeling at moment?

I’m in Tenerife on holiday, 1st one since 2016, love the island Best wishes Anne

Been offline, Costa Adele, Bahia Principe it’s closer to Playa Parisido..sorry about spelling...where Hard Rick Hotel is? The Bahia’s brightly painted but not very visible from road, built on cliff top up hill, large all inclusive but suits my mobility.

Sorry never even crossed my mind there’d be member living in Tenerife, what a fantastic place to live 😁
