weekly taxol

Chin up and stay positive. My mum who is 85 is on weekly Taxol, finishing her first cycle today. SE for her were diarrhoea ( on and off) and body aches with fatigue. All the best 👍
I found weekly taxol very manageable. Watch out for mouth ulcers though (be vigilant with oral hygiene, avoid scratchy foods like crisps, and hot spices). Your team will prescribe Difflam if this happens. I also got a fungal infection in toe and fingernails. Keep nails clipped short and monitor (let your team know, they can prescribe an anti fungal cream). Some people swear by black nail polish to protect the nail bed!
We have the same diagnosis. After your chemo finished, did they continue Avastin? If so, for how long? Do they test you for tumor markers and if so any other marker than CA125? Has rhat been a good indicator for your cancer? My chemo finished last April and I am still on Avastin for a few more months. If you were still on Avastin, I guess this means neither the chemo or Avastin worked for you? Where did they see the recurrence? And will they test the new tumor to see of they are dealing with the same exact thing or something different? Seems like that is the route to go before deciding which next treatment might be useful. Since they dont have a protocol for MLA it is all a guessing game, sadly. But tumor and genetic testing can give useful information on what is driving the cancer. All this should be shared with you so you can investigate your options in a more informed way. Hope you find useful, helpful information here and wherever you are seeking support. I sent you a msg, feel free to join our Fb group for sharing of MLA info. Take good care through these challenging times. ❤️💐❤️
I’ve tolerated weekly Taxol well. Tomorrow, 3/17, is weekly infusion #6. I haven’t skipped any weeks. To avoid mouth sores I use a toothpaste called Thieves Dentarome Ultra by Young Living. Amazon.com sells it. If I feel a little mouth soreness, I use the gargle recommended by my nurses. Use 8 ounce water with 1 teaspoon salt and 1 teaspoon baking soda. I’ve been able to walk 30-40 minutes almost every day. I’m 79 and was walking before my diagnosis. Like you, I’m treatable but not curable.
My biggest problem with weekly Taxol has been nausea. My doctor cured this by prescribing 2 Dexamethasone on day 2 and day 3 and taking 3 Zofran every day.
I was diagnosed with HGSOC in January, 2024. From March - June I took 6 treatments with Carbo & Taxol. From July - August I had 3 of Carbo, Taxol, & Avastin. CA-125 went from 17,000in February to 1364 at the end of August. I took a break so that I could have surgery on 10/8. Exploratory surgery indicated that it was better for me not to have debunking surgery. So on 10/14 I started Carbo, Gemcitabine, and Avastin. I ended up in the hospital due to low platelets plus the CA-125 went up. So I started on Doxil (liposomal doxorubicin) and Avastin. When my CA-125 continued to climb to 4075, I switched to weekly Taxol on 2/10. Now my CA-125 is down to 3348, still very high but DOWN 727 points from the 4075.
My fingernails tear but I haven’t had the nail fungus so far. I have to cut them very short. Also, food doesn’t taste very good to me.
I wish you the best as you continue your treatments.
By the way, I live in the US in Alabama. I went to MD Anderson in Houston, one of the world’s leading cancer centers, for a second opinion. As you can tell from my story, I have a hard-to-treat version of OC.
