Incorrect scan result

Hi, I had an updated CT scan on 11th March and the result was given to me over the phone on 16th March. A doctor I didn’t know phoned me after 5pm on the evening before St. Patrick’s day here in Ireland and said my scan was really good as all stable. I questioned her for more details and she said two cancerous masses where my ovaries use to be were stable, but I said that these did not show up on my last scan and were these new. She could not answer this for me.

I got in touch with my oncologist on Monday 20th and he said he would look into this for me and would have to take a look at the film himself and discuss with the radiologist.

So yesterday after the most stressful week I was told the radiologist has amended the scan and the masses reported on are just scar tissue, thank God.

I am on Avastin with a small amount of cancer under my chest which is reducing slowly on my third recurrence, My full story is in my bio but my advice is to always ask questions and always be vigilant, Mags

Thanks for your story. It’s shocking that you could be given such a wrong opinion of your scan! You are so right about advocating for yourself but I find it’s sometimes easier said than done. I’m happy for your good results!
