How long off Olaporib before starting Carbo/Caelyx for a recurrence?

I have just got off the phone to my oncologist who, after having put me on 8 weekly scans for a recurrence for a few months now, has said its time to come off my Avastin/Olaporib combination of maintenance and onto Carbo/Caelyx. Not great to hear, but I've known its coming sometime. Its slowly coming back, so she's not necessarily saying I have to have the chemo immediately. My question is, do I need a month free of Olaporib anyway before a start the chemo? (if so, it gives me time to visit my daughter before I have the treatment)I forgot to ask the oncologist that, and of course phoning back is not really feasible! If anyone has had experience of this, I'd be really grateful.

sorry I don’t know the answer but I hope it works well for you. I found carbo caelyx (doxil) easier than carbo taxol and I didn’t lose my hair! Xx

Hello. I am sorry that it has been recommend that you stop Avastin/Olaporib. I am taking Niraiparib and it is currently working for me, thank goodness. I have been told that it will stop being effective on day so will be perhaps offered Carbo/Caelyx. So I can help but wish you well.

This has just happened to me. Stopped Lynparza (olaparib) 12/21/22 due to a recurrence. No mention of waiting a month. My carbo/doxil treatment started 1/4/23. If that’s your cocktail, I found it much more tolerable. Sessions are shorter (3-4 hrs), no nausea, and tolerable fatigue. Ohhhh but that darn constipation was back! Hope it goes well for you. And I feel your pain about recurrence. Upsetting.

Thanks so much for your reply and I'm really pleased that carbo/doxil is going well. That's really helpful to hear. I've known things were coming back for a while, but its that thing of not really taking it in properly until you hear 'OK we'll start chemo again ' that it hits you. Ah the constipation - I remember it well! Hope that eases soon.

It’s so funny you say that. I didn’t want to hear this. Stayed in denial til after Christmas. And somehow I’d forgotten about the side effects when I’d battled them for 7 months before! God bless us all as we continue on this journey.
