Hi I have been very anxious recently as when i finish my chemo last November I had to have a tooth out before I started the 300g Niraparib in the January. i had the tooth taken out at the hospital and no problem. Now six month on I found a hard lump near the area where my tooth was taken out. I went to the hospital and they can not see anything on the X-ray but you can feel it and it feels like bone. They have said they will keep an eye on it if it gets bigger. It is only sore when I touch it or food touches the area. Why would bone grow ? When it was never there before?? They dont think it is anything sinister but yesterday it bought back anxiety as remembering how I felt when I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Anyone else had a similar problem.

Tooth & lump in mouth
Hi Jingles6, just reading your post reminded me of many years ago after having a tooth removed I too returned to the dentist as I could feel a hard lump in the side of my gum.My dentist assured me that it was most likely a root that had not come out with the tooth.Sure enough about a year later it broke through the skin & dentist removed the little devil without even need of anaesthetic. So please don’t worry 🤗DeeX
My mum had what sounds like the same thing on more than one occasion- was a small piece of tooth root that had broken off during the extraction and was working it’s way out up through the gum.,,
Hi Jingles6I too have had a piece of bone left behind under the skin after an extraction. It’s so understandable that we take every little lump and bump to be something sinister…apparently many cancer patients end up with ptsd after diagnosis.
Once that nagging worry takes hold it’s almost impossible to banish it.
So I am not going to say ‘don’t worry’ but if you find yourself very anxious, don’t hesitate to ask for help and reassurance xx
It's most likely a piece of tooth or root working its way to the surface, or even a piece of bone, especially if your bones are a little thin. This is quite common after a tooth extraction, I've experienced that before post extraction, and you do get a bit of a lump before it comes out. I once had an almost square piece of bone with a gap in the middle, like a framework, that took nearly 5 months to work its way out of the gum, and when it came out,it was clearly the bone which had surrounded the tooth on all sides. Because it was so large, the area was septic for about 4.5 months post extraction and I'd been referred to the hospital to have surgery to see if they could locate the root or bone piece and extract it (apparently, these shards or pieces don't show up on xray). Luckily, three weeks before the surgery was due, one edge of it appeared outside the gum, with more and more appearing after another couple of weeks to the point where I could finally lift it out, and also luckily, this all happened a year before I found out I'd got OC, so I didn't have a compromised immune system from cancer drugs. It would have been easier and quicker if the bone 'framework'was in pieces, I don't think it would have caused ongoing infection for such a long time or at all if it had been. Certainly, I never had infection with other bits of bone or tooth working their way out after an extraction, just usually a painful or tender area and/or bump which really only hurt if you put pressure on the area.
Anyway, what I'm trying to say is, its 99% more likely to be bone or tooth shards working their way out, but as you're on a PARP, keep an eye on it for signs of infection, when you will need antibiotics.
