Hi
I have to have a tooth removed in the 17th of this month. I have just spoken to my consultant who wants me to stop my maintenance treatment for 5 weeks. Is this normal and has anyone else had this.
Prayers and hugs to everyone ❤️

When I was on rucaparib, i was told to come of that for a few days either side of treatment. I am sure there will be someone who can specifically answer your question. Good luck with the tooth extraction.
I had a crown, a bridge and eye surgery without stopping Olaparib at all….
Hi Lyndy
I have spoken to my nurse and she said because it’s an open wound, this is something that they do so I don’t get an infection. I’m still confused as to why they are stopping for this long.

Hi
I had to have two teeth out and a deep clean (below the gum line) when I was on Niraparib. My oncologist said to take stop Niraparib 7 days before and 7 days after treatment and, to make my time off the drug my dentist crammed the appointments in as short a time as possible.
Good luck. x
Hi LesleyGB,
Did they give you antibiotics before the teeth extraction and afterwards? The dentist said antibiotics half an hour before extraction then they will send me home with some. I’m really confused as to why they have told me to stop taking the maintenance drugs for that long. Thanks for your reply.

What maintenance are you on? I’ve had 3 teeth out on Olaparib.
I got an infection in a tooth during chemo (actually an old infection flared up because I was immunosuppressed). My oncologist stopped the chemo until it was sorted out (it was extracted). I wouldn't have thought maintenance therapy required such a long break as it shouldn't cause immunosuppression.
Hope you get the right advice, take care love SheilaFxxx
It would make sense if it were Avastin because it prevents healing but as everyone else has said it’s odd to stop Olaparib for that long. I had an extraction and three implants put in and I didn’t have to go off it at all. I wish I had for a few days because I think it caused the anesthesia and pain meds to make me feel woozy longer than normal.
