Surgery if now Platinum resistant?

Hello ladies,

Im having a second relapse and because I recurred 5 months after second line; Carbo/Caelyx, I'm now classed as Platinum resistant.

I was wondering if any of you have had second surgery (second debulking) after second line chemo, and then gone on to non Platinum chemo / maintenance regime

...and if so, what was/is your experience?

Or if after second line chemo what treatment you then went on to have.

I had Paclitaxel/Carbo for first-line, with Avastin. (14 month remission)

I had Carbo/ Caelyx for second-line (had clear CT scan), followed by Olaprib (not successful).

I'm currently looking at options.

Best wishes to you all

Lisa

I am in a similar situation to you. Carbo/Taxol and Avastin, then remission for three years. Carbo/Caelx then Rubrac a which didn't work! Now on Anastrazole tablets which don't seem to be working either as I am getting pain which is new to me.I have rather got the impression that we are running out of options, though weekly Taxol is possibly available..

I don't think surgery is an option, as my cancer is now widespread.

Sorry to hear this, Jenny. yes, we're in a similar position. I am contemplating weekly Taxol/Avastin, though Avastin was tough the first time around during frontline chemo. Avastin really messed with my joints. Wishing you all the best with your next step. xx

Can you have Avastin a second time? I was under the impression it was only on offer once.

Not sure if I can have it on NHS but think I can have it again privately. xx

Hi dear. Am 4b . Diagnosed jan 21/ had full debulk,carbo/taxol, then Niraparib but recurred after 5-6 month. Now put on Caelyx for 6 month. Side effects extreme physical tiredness and now painful mouth sore. Had ct scan week ago, waiting for the results if this treatment works but have a feeling that it doesn't. If not they mentioned some trials and other stuff available, dont know what yet. Am not worried much about anything anymore just go with the flow.....))

forgot to mention that surgery is not an option as little tumours somewhere deep and inoperable they say

Thank you for your reply. I am looking at a possible trial, if my tumour tissue tests positive for responsiveness. Otherwise it may have to be weekly Taxol. I wish you well with Caelyx and trials. Hope you find something that works well for you. xx

I recurred 3 months after second line, dramatically with a bowel obstruction. Surgery was ruled out as could not remove all cancer. Weekly Taxol was given and I was lucky in that it unblocked my bowel and knocked back cancer. Now on break with CA 125 creeping up, hoping I get longer break this time and there is 4 th line available. Good luck xxx

Would you be kind enough to share how weekly taxol affected you and how long each session takes. This will be my next option, what do you think would be offered for 4th option.

So glad the Taxol worked and unblocked the bowel and knocked the cancer back... here's hoping it keeps it away for you to be able to have some semblance of normality xx

Hi Meridian My situation is very similar to yours - carbo/paclitaxel, avastin, carbo caelyx, Olaparib. I recurred after 5 month of completing carbo caelyx but because it was on the cusp of the six month mark my oncologist thought it worthwhile to try more chemo so I started on carbo/gemcitabine in April.I have tolerated chemo well in the past but 48 hours after the first infusion of carbo/ gem I got excruciating pain which turned out to be a fistula.

My chemo is on hold now for reasons explained in earlier posts. I am interested to hear about your treatment Meridian, please keep me posted.

All the best

Christine
