On to another Chemo Drug - Topotecan or also known as Hycamtin

Well Hello,

Finished two treatments of Doxil/Caelyx and it wasn't for me. My CA 125 went from 198 to 521 which is the highest I have ever been. My Oncologist was like, yep this isn't working. Did get a CT Scan and showed progression in my abdomen but thank God not in any major organs. So now will be on Topotecan. Which is once a week for three weeks ans then off one. Am not familiar with this one at all. Was wondering if any of my teal sisters ever took this, and what I need to watch for and if it worked.

Tomorrow is my first infusion, needing prayers for this one to destroy these buggers.

Cheers ๐Ÿป๐Ÿฅ‚๐Ÿป

Hi Shelly,

I was thinking about you today and wondering how it was going and am saddened that Doxil/caelyx not the one for you. I'm so sorry there has been progression in abdomen but very glad not in major organs. I don't know about the chemo you have mentioned but you will def be in my thoughts and prayers. Hope infusion goes well tomorrow and starts to kick the f***** into touch. I have scan results for carbo/caelyx midpoint tomorrow. Stay strong like the lady you are.

All the best

I've never heard of this drug before you mentioned it, so can't say how it is as a treatment. I checked the McMillan site, and it lists the usual side effects with most chemos, but nothing specific.

Hope it works for you and isn't too awful to take - its apparently available in pill form too. Please let us know how it goes and good luck with it

Hi. Sorry the doxil/caelyx didnโ€™t work but at least the cancer didnโ€™t spread too much. I donโ€™t have experience with topotecan either. Good luck with it! Sending positive vibes and hugs.

Hi Shelly,

Sorry to hear Caelyx didn't work for you. It wasn't much help to me either and it's a real blow having an option off the table.

Are you in the US? I think Topotecan is more readily available there. A lot of us on the board are in the UK where it doesn't seem to be available on the NHS at the moment. I'm in the UK myself and am being treated privately. My consultant suggested Topotecan might help me, but my insurer won't authorise it.

Good luck with it. I hear it can be tough on your bloods x

Hi Gemmyw,

Yes I am in the US, basically we are going down the list until something takes and works.

Good luck with the new chemo Shelly. I say a little prayer ๐Ÿ™ for you. Angela x

Hi PCCDaisy. How did you get on with the Topotecan? My wife has just been offered it as an option. She has already had a heck of a lot of treatment. Hope you are doing well x
