Ovarian cyst.. advice needed

Hi everyone,

So I have been having difficulties since February with my health. I have had abdominal, lower pelvic pain. I had 3 ovarian daughter cysts discovered in August. Not big enough to do anything to help at the moment. No mention of surgery or anything. I have had symptoms such as pain, severe bloating, fatigue, bouts of sickness, sore and tender stomach, irregular bleeding with clots/spotting and so on, along with the feeling of fullness. Was supposed to get referred to a gynaecologist, but they have changed their mind.

I feel like I am going around in circles to be honest. I have had urine tests and both times it’s shown something. 1st time I had white blood cells in my urine which was given antibiotics for. It didn’t feel like a urine infection. No burning or stinging, just an urge to wee, more frequent and having bouts of losing control of bladder. I have said it feels like a pressure feeling.. in my pelvic area. 2nd one showed red blood cells but no white that time. This was maybe a month or so after the first one.

I ended up in hospital in October because of how bad the pain was, which didn’t get anywhere other than confirming my ovarian cysts and sending me home with high painkillers, which I ended up relying on heavily to get by day-to-day. I had some blood tests done which required my doctor to contact me but he said that my result was nothing to worry about over the phone and it’s most likely normal for me. Whatever that means.

I am getting real low having to deal with my symptoms and the discomfort at times. I have been having issues that first started in February and still I feel like we aren’t getting anywhere. All that keeps happening is I can’t deal with it anymore. Call up GP, go in and get seen. Get examined externally and internally, talk about my symptoms, take painkillers, go A&E if gets worse. Repeat ultrasound in x amount of time. Urine test after urine test after urine test. No other tests done. Get told how I am young, so It’s nothing to worry about. (I am 25).

My stomach is so bloated.. and uncomfortable. I have quite a small frame. I’m not underweight, I used to be.. but I’ve noticed a lot of weight gain recently. I had a previous eating disorder but I am a healthy weight now. My weight gain is noticeable and drastic. I have gone from being 9st in October when I was admitted in A&E to now 10 stone. I eat a balanced diet and snack and have treats occasionally like everyone else. My noticeable stomach and weight gain is making me feel quite uncomfortable and anxious in my body. The bloating does go down slightly but food or liquid makes an alarming difference. I have been tested for celiac disease in the past a few years ago and it came back negative. My mum has celiac disease. I am feeling like there I’ll never get help and I’ll never feel like myself again before this all started. I don’t know what to do anymore. Any advice and support would be hugely appreciated. Thank you.

Hi there, My sister had an ovarian cyst the size of a grapefruit. She felt pressure on her bladder and could never go to the loo and her stomach looked huge but she didn't really get any pain with it. And do you have any problems with your periods? I always did.How long ago did you have the ultrasound? That should show something - I had a cyst that proved cancerous and other weird things. What really alerted them was a propel test (no fun but she did it at the same time as the ultrasound) that showed cancerous tissue. The thing is a blood test might not show anything, so you could still have something. GPs are not always as aware as they should be about ovarian cancer.

But I'm not a medic or anything - all I know is you know your own body. Perhaps if you get another u/s, mention the propel test.

Anyway, hope you get some answers.

Hello Misslittlelu

Thank you for your post. I'm sorry to hear that you're having such a difficult time.

Has your GP explained the reasons for deciding not to refer you to a gynaecologist? Are you due to have a further scan? It could be helpful to have another discussion with your GP about what's happening and how your symptoms are affecting you. You could keep a diary of your symptoms before the appointment, to help your GP to understand what you're experiencing. Because you're feeling so low and frustrated about the situation, you could also talk to your GP about any support that may be helpful for your psychological health.

If you don't feel comfortable having another conversation with your existing GP, you could ask to see another GP at the practice. If you aren't referred to a gynaecologist, you could also get in touch with the Practice Manager to explore how the situation could be resolved.

I hope that you can get some further advice soon about how your cysts can be managed. If there's something that we can help with, or if it would help to talk anything through, please get in touch with our Support Service on 0800 008 7054 or 07503 682 311 or at support@ovacome.org.uk.

Best wishes

I would definitely find a gynecological oncologist to rule out ovarian cancer. Many of your symptoms sound similar to those of ovarian cancer, but they may be another cause altogether. In any case, you will hopefully have some answers so you can get whatever treatment may be needed.

Wishing you the best.

Bless your heart. Have you had a CA125 blood test? This isn’t always accurate, but hopefully it will give your dr more of an idea about what could be causing these uncomfortable health issues.

It is so hard not to worry.

You take good care please xx
