Leg pains remedy

During the time that I had chemo I had a whole lot of leg pains. I took everything and it just did not go away. A nurse told me to take Claritin. For some odd reason that helped. It is an allergy over the counter med. I just thought I would pass that information along if anyone is struggling with this. It was worth knowing.

My pain is a neuropathy pain. It hasn’t gone away fir 6 yrs. I deal with it but it’s debilitating. I live in nyc so I find moving, walking helps. At night it’s a burden and very hard to sleep.ive tried Lyrica, Advil, you name it. Maybe I’ll finally try Claritin.

I get very bad neuropathy during chemo, which comes in day 4 and is bad during the day, but worse at night. I have this also as a residual issue, However after doing some research I came across amitriptyline, which is one of the older depression drugs. It can also be helpful with treating neuropathy. My Dr agreed it might help and gave me a script. It took a while to get the right dose to reduce the pain, and I still have a little, but I can now at least get some sleep. I take 40mg. Cheers Therese

HI THERESE,

THANK YOU FOR THAT INFORMATION. I DON'T HAVE PAIN BUT HAVE NUMBNESS AND AT NIGHT LITTLE SPASMS THAT CAUSE THE LEG TO SUDDENLY JERK. I WAS WONDERING IF YOU HAD ANY NUMBNESS IN YOUR FOOT OR LEG AND DOES IT HELP FOR THAT?

THANKS,

LEE

Hi Therese.. has it helped with residual numbness in the feet?

No unfortunately. I have had three treatments of Carboplatin only currently, and while Paclitaxel was the culprit in first line, the problem has got worse with carbo. I have three toes on each foot now that are fully numb, and patches of numbness on the halls of my feet. The sensitivity in my fingers is also worse. The amitriptyline has only helped with the bone/joint pain I get day four., and the nerve pain caused by a large cyst I have which is pressing on a nerve. It only works on active nerve pain. Hope this helps.

I also had really bad leg pains and was told it’s because the chemo drugs get into the bone marrow.x

The first chemo treatment last year caused a high calcium level in the blood. Somehow the parathyroid gland was affected by chemo drugs & it stopped working to monitor the body's calcium. The leg pain was so severe that I could not walk, but used a wheelchair until the doctors diagnosed the problem & I got treatment for it. The calcium leeching from the bones caused the pain. The only cure was surgery to remove the enlarged gland. After surgery all my side effects disappeared. The high calcium in the blood also caused numbness & tingling in the hands & feet.

I am having chemo again as cancer came back in Sept 2019. I just finished the 3rd chemo on Dec 19 & still no side effects from the drugs, other than being tired & no energy for 2 days.

It's Christmas Eve here. I have presents to wrap & dinner to prepare later. At least I'm feeling better today. Best wishes to everyone.

That is a terrific idea. Did not think about magnesium. Also the tonic water. Great. I will try that if I ever come across that problem. Happy Holidays.
