Hi, I had chemo last Tuesday and for the past few days been having a few stabbing pains, is it normal to get these after having chemo. Does anyone else get them. I worry that the chemo is not working. Xx
After chemo pains : Hi, I had chemo last Tuesday... - My Ovacome
After chemo pains
What kind of stabbing pains, Juliette? Soft tissue or bone/muscle? I found I had (still have) bone pain and it has been much alleviated by epsom salt baths. I try to have one every day for a few days after chemo and I feel much better. The magnesium also helps to boost your mood if you are feeling low, and is very well absorbed through the skin.
I get the stabbing pains in my stomach will ask the oncology team on Tuesday and also try Epson salt baths
Xx
Yes, definitely worth asking medical advice. I did have some niggly pains which concerned me, but nothing like what you have described. I hope they can offer you some reassurance.
If nothing else, Epsom salt baths are very relaxing. They may not help your condition, but they are lovely! I have one whenever I'm feeling grumpy now and get out feeling like a new woman. Have also got my husband into them too!
Also, The lavender scented Epson salt helps you to calm and relax .
Thankyou yoshbosh, it could be due to the chemo, is the magnesium in liquid form.? Xx
No, the Epsom salts are very high in all sorts of minerals, with magnesium being one of the highest. You just add a scoop of salts to the bath and relax! I've bought a 5kg tub off the Internet as it's much more cost effective than the smaller bags you can get on the high street. There's a brand called Westlab which I think is sold in TKMaxx which is quite good as a starting point, but my internet purchase was from Elixir Garden Supplies.
Hi juliette, I get pains in my abdomen like stabbing pains, usually goes in two or so days. If it's worrying you though best to get it checked out.
Mandy,xx
I get stabbing pains in my shins wrist ankles. I describe them as someone having a voodoo doll and sticking pins into me at random intervals they are worse at night can't sleep for them on third day after chemo they lessen after day 4. I do get the odd pain in the days following but they are not as debilitating. Day three and four after chemo are the worse days for me. Hope they pass for you soon mention it to your onc they can prescribe pain killers they don't take the pains away but they do dull it so you can sleep. Big hugs 😍
Epsom salt baths! My answer to everything Your pains sound like mine - I've even said to my husband that it's like someone has a voodoo doll and is sticking pins in me.
It is fairly usual to have some type of pain especially if you are having chemo post op. Try Panadol or paracetamol and if that doesnt help do mention it to you Oncology Nurse or team, They will prescibe something to help you. Epsom salts baths are good and someone also mentioned it is good to add Lavender to the water as well,
Do not use anything with aspirin as it thins your blood and they do not want you taking that during chemo .
Thank-you suzuki , will be seeing them Tuesday so will ask them. X
Hi, I had surgery on 2 June and had my 2nd cycle of chemo on 12 Aug. I have had stabbing pains after both lots of chemo but it has been worst this time. I have been taking pain killers to help me sleep, but it is easing now. I mentioned it to my oncologist but he didn't seem overly concerned. Judging from the replies it seems like a common thing, hope this puts your mind at rest.

Thankyou for all your reply's I don't feel as worried now.But will ask the nurses when I go for my next treatment on Tuesday. Xx
Hi Juliette
I had 2nd round post surgery on Thursday both this chemo and the last one has been hard due to skeletal pain and stomach pain.
Spoken to Oncololigist Thursday she said it is the taxol that causes this and to take iferproofen for the pain so long as I am eating properly.
Ellsey xx
I am going to get some Epsom salt and try that, my hubby reckons it's the chemo attacking the c cells. Don't like using the c....r word, silly I know. I am thinking maybe it's the taxol. Xx
Hi juliette.
I wrote the very same thing a few days ago. I had chemo 10 days ago now and had the pains straight after and still have them. I was reassured by people on here that it's probably the chemo working.
Chemo affects the digestive system too so that could be a reason.
I will mention it at my next chemo. I'm sure it's nothing too much to worry about xxx
Could it be your bowels? I was on taxol last year and that caused joint pains and peripheral neuropathy
Hi, yes I did have a bit of numbness in My toes. I did have a leaflet in caylax but I threw it away as I am now on taxol. The soreness and redness as got better now I am off it. 👍
Hi Juliette, I too had stabbing pains in my abdomen and even shooting vaginal pain. If anything I thought it meant the chemo was working anyhow I'm 12months post chemo now and ok so far so try to think of it as a positive not easy when your in pain but this should go when you have finished your chemo. Good luck and best wishes sue xx
Thanks Sue, I feel better now I know the pains might be due to the chemo. Sending big hugs and wishing you well. Julie xx
