Omentum and gene results

Hi Lovely Ladies

I read everyone’s posts most days but rarely comment as I am not good on information but always feel empathy for the many brave teal ladies battling all the different obstacles we have to face.

I know there are some very knowledgable and helpful ladies on here and I’m sure you will know the answer to my two questions

Firstly regarding the removal of the omentum and after effects of this?

Does it make us more susceptible to ongoing stomach infection? I’ve had another one last week with unbearable stomach pain and horrendous vomiting, and this is about the 4th or 5th one I’ve had since surgery but this is the first since I’ve finished chemotherapy.

The stomach pains are crippling and again I wonder if the stomach area is much more delicate without the omentum lining?

Secondly I’ve just received the results of my gene testing. I’m not BRACA positive but have RAD51D?

Typically my oncologist and trials nurse are both away today so I can’t get any further info on it till next week. Have googled with not much results.

I’d be so grateful if any of you could give me any info on either of these subjects.

Love and best wishes to all of you as always , keep fighting the fight!

Big hugs

Claire xx

Hi! I am not sure the removal of the momentum has anything to do with your stomach pain. I have never heard or read that it does. I'm wondering if you may have ulcers since the problem seems to be inside your tummy or even intestines. Please go to the hospital if you need to!!

Barmy, my omentum was removed 4 years ago. I have no stomach problems. Your level of pain and vomiting is alarming and needs a doctor's attention. I'm guessing you can poo, otherwise your symptoms could also indicate bowel obstruction. Call your consulting nurse and get professional advice.

Interesting question because I didn't even know I had an omentum until it was removed and have never missed it. It's purpose is additional organ protection, in terms of injury and infection so your theory could be correct but I've never heard of it happening to other folk on here. I'd definitely get it looked into.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Dear Barney, I’m so sorry you’re having such a tough time. I don’t think omentum removal will trigger infections. I’ve had mine removed 3 times ( I think) and it’s not resulted in infections. It sounds to me like you we’d to go to hospital as soon as you can. Pain should be managed by your pain team and vomiting may be caused by something else. Let us know how you get on? Lots of love and gentle hugs, Nicky x
