This group is fantastic and there are also the Facebook groups Ovarian Cancer UK and Target Ovarian Cancer.
Hi there
I don’t know what part of Ireland you live in but Ovacare Ireland does terrific work in raising awareness of this disease . So also do target Ovarian Cancer , the Emer Casey trust and Beakthrough cancer research. Ovacare hold coffee mornings and one patient day throughout the year. The next patient day is in Dublin 5oct. There are usually some terrific guest speakers from oncologists to researchers and psychologists and a chance to meet women on the same journey. There’s also usually a patient story . I had the privilege of sharing mine in 2017. You can find the Events page in the Ovacare website. In fact there is a recent email from Ruth in Ovacare listing the events.
The problem with Ovarian cancers is that nobody seems to want to know about it no matter how loud you shout. It’s the hidden secret large elephant in the room. This is not just in Ireland but it seems it’s worldwide. Did you know that World Ovarian Cancer day is the 8 May ? Or that today is Gynaecologic Oncology day worldwide ? But we all know when Pink Ribbon day comes around as the media gives it huge publicity ! Very few who are not touched by OC. know that we wear teal ribbons. Every year Ovacare and the other charities make huge efforts to raise awareness of OC but it’s largly ignored. Believe me as Im in my 9th year.
I hope to see you now at the patient day tomorrow week ! It would be great to hear your ideas to raise awareness. Ovacare is voluntarily run by a core group of really dedicated people who give their free time to this task . Sharon O Toole who is a Researcher in Trinity usually organizes the events in Dublin and some of the other cities . Ovacare was started by a young woman in Cork June Feeney who saw the need when she herself was diagnosed .
Having reread my reply it reads like a lecture but I’m passionate about this whole awareness subject. We also have access to women in the UK and worldwide where we can exchange views and knowledge . It will be great to hear your ideas. I didn’t read your profile before I replied but I will . I do hope you have the opportunity to attend next Saturday’s patient day . Take care
